Help me overcome my greed!

Yeah this is a spoiler forum and all but if you haven't dealt with the Brotherhood of Steel yet, just walk away from this post. The BoS stuff is fun and interesting and you really want to do yourself a favor and read no further. If however you're a greedy sob and just want to get all the loot possible by any means, then by all means step inside ...

So here's the deal. I plop down 8000 big ones to get me a couple of those fancy S.P.E.C.I.A.L. upgrades everybody's talking about from Dr Ubu-whatsits in New Vegas Medical. And I love it and it's wonderful and all and I don't regret it but jeez I'm running pretty low on cash now.

I found that BoS armor on the dead guy awhile back and was surprised how many caps I could get for it. I'd heard there was more armor to be had at the BoS bunker in Hidden Valley so off I go to get me some. They do their whole thing and lock the collar around my neck and I plod over to the NCR trooper and tell him the Brotherhood knows he's there (the NCR just LOVE me and I wanted to do the right thing by them) and he disarms the collar. Then their armored thugs storm in to try and kill us all. But see I *know* their coming on account of my time-traveling abilities (save and reload) but that's really cheating if you ask me. On the first run through me and Boone died quite handily. But after reloading I decided to plant a few mines salted with a couple sticks of dynamite each along the way in - just to see what would happen - and it killed them all without us having to fire a shot.

And wow! All that power armor. All those expensive guns. That's easily my 8000 caps back right there and probably enough left over for another S.P.E.C.I.A,L, upgrade. But then I see a couple of gatling lasers. Hmm, I'd never seen those before. I repair them to sell but then I try firing one just see what they're like. Wow, no way am I selling that. I want it for myself.

But here's my dilemma. First of all the BoS now reviles me and I can't go back and do their quests anymore, Second, I cheated, I knew they were coming to get me from saving and reloading. I'm not a purist, I save and reload all the time but this time it seems like I'm crossing a line. A good role role player would accept the hand their dealt and see where life leads them. (Of course a *really* good role player would also not read forum posts and find out where the good loot is and probably would never have stumbled on the BoS bunker in the first place. But I'm too weak for that). So what I've done just doesn't set right with me.

But now I've got all that terrific loot and even more fame with the NCR.

I know I could reload and do all the BoS quests and then kill them all for their loot but that's not me either. First of all it would be a lot harder and second I've been playing as a good guy - I'm not such a cold-blooded murderer.

The *right* way is to reload, do the BoS quests and part on good terms, maybe stealing a couple pieces of armor when their not looking. That's what would feel best to me. But now that seems so boring and I'd be giving up all that loot.

What would you do?

Once you get to the strip and gamble , you gonna have all the money you need. You can walk away with 40k caps from one of the casinos there. I did it on a lvl 1 char , made it to vegas and gambled enough money to get all 11 implants as lvl 1.

Don't you mean 9 implants? Or am I missing something? So you must have a 10 END build?

I think he means 8 implants, that is the max you could get with 40k caps.

7x 4k (SPECIAL)
+ one of the others (cant afford both)

Thanks. I haven't been to the strip yet.

Since I don't have to worry about my low caps I guess I'll go back and do the BoS quests so I don't feel like such a cheater. After that I'll have a moral choice to make: kill them all in cold blood and take their stuff or leave on good terms. At least that's a true in-game role playing choice and not an extra-game save/reload cheater choice.

Still it was a lot of fun taking them out with mines before they even got a chance to shoot. Ah well, good times from an alternate reality I guess.

But how did you get all the way to the strip without gaining a level?

I am going to roll a third character and try to complete the BoS quest chain before doing anything else. On my first playthrough, I played it pretty straight-up without coming here or using the guide. On my (current) second play-through I planed a crit/sharpshooting character to explore all the nooks and crannies I missed on the first run. I never knew there were so many gold mines around Searchlight. lol.

This may seem offtopic but as we are talking about greed I have to ask...how are you finding places to sell your stuff? I cleared out all the caps that the Gun Runners have and can't find anywhere else that will give a decent price....Is it because of my low barter and should I sell all my stolen energy weapons from Freeside for the stupid half prices?

I cannot see a way out of your predicament I suppose if you killed every member of BOS think how much caps you'd have then! :gun:

This might help your decision

I beat the bos missions all of them and they don't give you that gun and I have stealthly robbed everyones locker in the bunker and no crazy bos gun but tons of energy weapons and a few suit but not a lot
