So.. I've finished this quest a long time ago but never got around to posting this. After I unlocked the two audio logs on ED-E I handed him over to the BoS. So when I got him back the quest was finished. Was that it? I mean that has to be the only quest I was seriously interested in. I'm really disappointed it just ended there. I think this is just more of a rant than a question..

Good rant thought. It seems a little disappointing since he seemed like the new mascot for new Vegas but his quest was anti-climatic and annoying.

I've got a question about this quest - does it open up the BOS secret bunkers I've found but can't get into (key required for both)? I really want to see inside them but don't know if they are ED-E quest related.

At some point in the quest you'll get a live broadcast fro Lorenzo who will send you to find their patrol. I don't want to spoil it but you'll get a password to get in whichever is the only way. I think another companion can get you in as well. Maybe it was Veronica.
