how do you start of in new vegas?

Post » Thu Oct 07, 2010 2:57 pm

i play new vegas by starting off in goodsprings and just hunt for mutated creature and sell the meat and hides till i have enough money to buy some supplies and move on to the next town (this is a long term thing)
after a while i start hunting for certain creatures eg: giant radscorpians and deathclaws...

this is just one of my saves for a hunter kind of guy...

Well, my latest, and main character is based on the character Michael Westen from the show Burn Notice. In that show he is a burned spy who is trying to find out who burned him. This style is actually very similar to New Vegas, and very fun to play. Instead of finding the people who burned him it's finding the person who shot him. Also, building a character to a spies skill set it very fun. He also uses disguises on the show frequently... and he's a good person overall, but he's not afraid to do some bad things if it meets an important goal in the end. Haha, it's actually very funny as a fan of the show, how it's easy to relate that character to the New Vegas world.

First i do the tutorial quests, while getting the Xander Root i loot the school, and while getting the Broc Flower i loot the cemetary, how deeply depends on character ;) Then follows the "rescue mission", after which i loot Yangtze Memorial and the nearby hut, Devil's Gullet and Goodsprings Cave and go the store. Further deveploments depend on character, but usually continues with "Ghost Town Gunfight" quest.

Same really, I also loot most of the goodstuff in Goodsprings ( all if a thief build ).
Get my hands on a stealthy weapon and kill everyone with an assassin, with more a thinker / tinker build I do all those little unmarked item gain quests around town.
Plus all those tool boxes and plants for making stuff, on a gun build I also try to convert as many 20 guage to slugs as I can.

I also now like to head to the NCRCF and Sloan for things to do and stuff to find, steal, loot and buy, before doing much else in primm.

Then there's hunting season, Gecko's, Coyote's, Flies, Horners and sometime rad roaches and Mole rats.

On a speed run to NV I do all the work in Goodsprings. Then move on to Primm. I clear out all Convicts sell everything I loot off them. Then on head to the prospectors cave where you will usually get your hands on some decent armor, and weapons. After that I head through Primm Pass to Novac to NV. Only thing in the way there that is remotely tough is a Blind Deathclaw which are much weaker then regular Deathclaws.

Shortswords, daggers and bows equal shotguns, pistols and sniper rifles :D

The second time playing through, which I'm currently doing, I've made 2000 bottlecaps just from Goodsprings and Primm. On this current account I'm level 16 with about 90,000 bottlecaps, 4 implants to go, with a trail carbine, hunting shotgun, sniper, assault carbine and some junk. First time I didn't understand any of the perks or SPECIAL attributes but I ended that character at like level 26 because it got boring to be an overall character instead of some specific build.

I just hate how I have to do Vault 34 all over again eventually, because the first time it took the piss and was just annoying with all the dwellers.

Loosely follow main quest til Boulder City, shop at 188, run to Medical Clinic to get primary implants (the ones I need for meeting perk requirements), go to McCarran, start hunting Fiends. After that explore the whole map except The Strip and get done with the wasteland. Finally Freeside, followed by Strip sidequests, dealing with Benny, picking a side and endgame.

It's actually pretty straightforward but the radiation and the layout confuse you. Take your time, stay cool, map the level in your mind as you go. It was hell for me first time (got out with 900 and some rads, no radaways left) but the second time I knew the vault like the back of my hand.
