Damn Deathclaw Problems

Post » Tue Nov 30, 2010 9:31 am

I'm trying to clear out Quary Junction of the deathclaws like I have been instructed by the good man at the construction site. The problem is, they won't F!#&ing die. I'm well aware they are one of the hardest monstrosities to kill in the entire game, but it seems too hard. Hit them with a missile? About 1/6th damaged. Mini nuke? A quarter of their health goes down. Three packs of C4? 1/3rd damaged if I'm lucky. Is this a glitch or an egregious oversight by the men and women of Bethesda and Obsidian?

Any tips to get around it or mitigate my efforts?

Thanks!

Use an Anti-material rifle with Armour Piercing Bullets. That should work like a charm.

Go back at a higher level or bring some high Damage weapons since the Deathclaws had 15 DT. I took them out at Lv. 10 so I don't see the problem

Explosives svck. They're meant for "attacking multiple foes", but even then it doesn't amount to a hill o' beans because the damage svcks.

Use overwhelmingly powerful non-explosive weapons. Preferably from afar.

Killing a deathclaw with a missile requires maximum explosives an HE missiles preferably from Annabelle. THAT can take out multiple deathclaws at once. The tried and true method is a sneak head shot with a scoped rifle and the better criticals perk.

i have taken out those death claws using a silenced sniper rifle, decent sneak skill, and stealth boys. don't bring your side kicks. you should be able to take a few out at range. if they do spot you, use another stealth boy which will make you invisible again.

Didn't I say the tried and true method was a sneak head shot with a scoped rifle?

yes, but they don't always die on schedule. sometimes it takes two shots and they come towards me and sometimes they can detect me in spite of the stealth boy being on. i don't always get maxed out when i do this quest.
