Stashing system ? : Fallout: New Vegas

Hi,

1) Which containers are safe to place my items in ? By safe I mean I place them there and they won't disappear after a certain amount of time at which the game resets the container (like the 3 days in Oblivion for unsafe stashing) or by a NPC taking my items.

2) What about the strange mailing/stashing system ? Is that like having a stash accessible from every mail box ?

3) Could I buy a house ?

4) I will also accept any tips for the new player (sniper here, playing softcoe on PC, already got intel implant, currently level 1).

I personally stash all my swag in my hotel room in Novac.

Once you get a house I'm pretty sure the containers are safe. The first house I got was in No Vac motel.

The mailing system lets other Mojave Express couriers deliver stuff for you. Put stuff in box, pick destination, go unencumbered to destination, retrieve stuff and hobble off to wealthy merchant to sell it.

The only guaranteed ones are in your owned rooms. Generally if you don't find it empty in the first place, it's not safe. Put something in it and come back after 3 days outside the cell location.

It's not a mailbox. Its a Mojave Express Delivery System. Yes, your stuff stays there (where you send it) until you retrieve it. I haven't tried using more than one pair at any one time. Blue Mail Boxes are generally not safe

3) Could I buy a house ?
NO But you have places given to you and you can rent rooms in different places

You're doing pretty good at level 1 not only finding the good doctor but having 4K Caps to pay for it.

Here are the safe places I think:

I would believe the Mailing system (Mojave Express Delivery System (blue boxes you see in towns)) is safe but you can only send it to ONE place not have the same equipment in different mail places.

When you go to Novac you can get a hotel room which should be safe to place your stuff in.

You can get safe house from, The Followers of the Apocalypse, NCR, The Legion, Mr House Lucky 38 Penthouse Sweet, and....

Also when you get a compantion you can put stuff on them. (up to an amount).

Could I buy a house?

Yes you can buy a room at the Novac hotel next to the big dinosaur.
But you can also get free Safe houses from other fractions

Tips

If you are being a sniper like you said try and get the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/All-American because that has a scope and is a good Assault Rifle. Also try and get the http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Anti-materiel_rifle

Are you sure it does not reset after a certain amount of time ? For how long have you been doing that ?

I've had stuff stashed in Novac for the entire game and nothing disappears. There are pretty much zero containers in the world that are set to respawn. There might be a few in special places, but unlike in some past games, it's not the norm.

I stash all my gear in Goodsprings, in the robot's house. This location has everything closeby: a store, pure water (!), a doctor and a bed. The desk is super-safe.
