ED-E Frustrations...

Post » Fri Jan 21, 2011 9:05 am

I must admit, at first, having my own personal robot sounded great! Especially for my "computer nerd turned survivalist" character. It's just me and my bot roaming the wastelands!

I have come to the conclusion that dragging ED-E around has been the most frustrating experience I have ever had playing a video game. That is all. No spoilers, no nothing, just leave it at that. Thank you.

Get him, leave him at your safehouse, profit.
You still get his perk to see enemies red dots on the compass from a mile away which is really great.

He's the perfect floating backpack. Won't equip and burn ammo for guns you're trying to sell.

I agree with the original poster. I'll go a bit further and say that I enjoy stealth, and I built my whole character around it, but having him in your party negates any change of that, even if you put him on Passive and Hang Back.

I had to let him go.

I never use companion. partly as a role-play for my character :P and also because of hard-core mode. That way I don't have to worry about them at all, just me and the enemy ;).

Wow, you still get the perk even with him sitting in a hotel room? Thanks, I didn't even think of that.

It is literally impossible to skirt by enemies or sneak through some hallways without him running off and attacking anything and everything he sees. Do other companions ignore the PASSIVE command or is it just ED-E? :banghead: :brokencomputer:

As long as i′ve seen also Boone and Rex ignore the passive command. They attack every red dot in the HUB even if i haven′t yet noticed it.

I like Ed-E because he acts like a floating suitcase by any other name - 200 lbs of more equipment that I couldn't carry otherwise. Between ED-E and Boone I can carry around all the crap that I like to, without ED-E I would be struggling to make it all fit.

He isn't that annoying, and Chris Avellone said in the pre-release videos that there is "More to ED-E than most people realize". I intend to find out what he meant.

ED-E the only companion besides Boone I have that doesn't die (well, get KO'd) in every fight against stronger monsters.

Plus he sets [censored] on fire and beeps!

The only thing about him I hate isn't his fault; it's BoS and the Followers'. They rob him and make him look non-unique if you choose to upgrade him.

Only problem i've had with ED-E so far is that he/she/it is always getting in my damn way, i peek around a corner take a shot at an enemy then try to back up and ED-E is right there to completly screw me over, you'd think you'd be able to duck under a robot that is floating nearly 4 feet above the ground.

Problem I have with Ed-E is that friendly factions attack him! For example, I am a friend to the NCR in my game, and when in NCR areas, not all, but some NCR troops will open fire on Ed and kill him. Same thing happened in Vegas. Some people you walk up to, they will start shooting at Ed for no reason. I finally got sick of reloading saves and now have to park Ed far away from any NPCs and backtrack to him later.
I sure hope they fix this in a patch.. :(

I've not had anyone attack Ed-E on his own, but mostly everyone I meet says "that's a strange looking robot" or "it's a wonder it still works" and such. It's funny :)

I've heard that too, but have also heard from Freeside residents "That looks like those spybots that Mr. House sends out at night". That is a VERY interesting comment. Could possibly explain why some people open fire on him. Interesting stuff..

ED-E is the one companion I always make sure to get. I've had no problems with people attacking him, and he accepts my Passive command. The only time I've ever had a companion under random fire is if something loaded that shouldn't (the woman from the scrapyard and her dogs spawned outside HELIOS-1 once). I've maybe had to reload due to this fault three times in about twenty-five hours of gameplay. His perk is ridiculously useful (I'm a sniper), and he carries all my spare parts around for me (I'm an engineer too, lol). So far he's easily the most useful companion I've found (except maybe Boone, he makes me not fear going anywhere becuase he's so ridiculously powerful). Maybe playing hardcoe makes a difference?

Yeah that's the first thing I did. His perk is great but he is just annoying and in the way. The game is already too easy to need a gang of followers.

In hardcoe he is still fairly resilliant, and only dies if he gets really ganged-up on. I play on Very Hard in hardcoe mode and while he doesn't help much, he stays out of the way and serves his purpose as floating suitcase quite nicely.

Even in hardcoe mode the NPC followers are automatically healed to full at the end of any fight, so there is only really a risk of him dieing During a battle.

And for carrying armor too that's not faction armor. Give him faction armor and he'll "eat it."

My only complaint with ED-E is that his quest is bugged or something. Other than that, nifty little guy.
