10,000 Damage with _ weapons achievements

Post » Wed Jan 26, 2011 10:12 am

Simply put, to earn the "cause 10,000 damage with _ weapons" or "heal 10,000 points of damage with _" achievements/trophies - do you have to do all 10,000 with ONE character, or will it add up with all separate characters/playthroughs?

I was wondering the same thing... Sory but i don't have an answer. I've only done two playthroughs so far, and neither of them have done enough damage to tell me if it is or not.

The achievements are presumably attached to the challenge perks and those are individual to each character.

Yeah it's stupid but I guess, well I am trying to get 10000 Damage with energy weapons because I have already done it with guns. Only 9000 to go. :)

I did the EW one all in one go. Added Populated Wasteland and ran into the Fort with nothing but a plasma rifle and a load of aid items. I swear, that was extrememly difficult, especially not being an EW char. It was fun though. I was addicted to nearly every single drug by the end of it and dizzy from running in circles :D
(Pre-patch, so EW were still in their weak state >__<)

Yep ... it's weird what going after an achievement can do to a player's course of action. To get it, the achievement, what you do really has nothing to do with the inherant natural flow of the game itself.

Sometimes it just goes to demonstrate the Kindergarten level mind of some of the programmers. For example ... what dumb stupid idiot player would actually pick up and carry a gnome doll throughout an adventurous shoot em up game such as HalfLife2 ... BUT that was one of the achievements someone who must have repeated 4th grade two or three times thought up in the design for HL2.

Unfortuneately, the completion of many achievements have nothing to do with the effecient completion of the game itself.

They should spend their time designing a better actual game instead of BS.

I think the achievements are there to make people give reaplayability a try.
Hate those achievements since they're basically just checklists of what I'd do anyway but it's good if people try the game more than once.

But achievement perks are nice way to mark a player's action.

Only if there is more.

As people said above ... if you don't make 10,000 damage in your first game you won't make it in any later game ...

UNLESS ...

the player makes a concerted effort to do that achievement which is against that players favorite way/style of playing.

10k damage doesn't take very long when you are high level.
I got the unarmed achievement by going into a casino and punching everything. Low unarmed doesn't matter if you are wearing power armor.

Its simple. Your first playthrough you go around as say a guns charatcer you wioll make the guns ones easy just before.

Later playthroughs as ew chars and melee chars and so on will unlock the other goals just as automaticaly.

Just replax and play the game several dozen times in different ways and most all the acheivements will handle themselves.

Or low level, even. I somehow missed the damn Blast Master achievement on my energy weapons dude (probably had to TCL out of some hole somewhere and forget to restart the stupid game so steam wouldn't think I was still cheating) so I made a temp character to grind energy kills really quick. Yeah, I know. But I've got a touch of OCD in me and it would have nagged me, that missed achievement staring me in the face every time I logged onto my steam account, silently mocking me, questioning my resolve. I just went killing stuff, not a murderous rampage, mind you, just killing threats as I walked from Goodsprings around the loop towards Novac. I got to 10,000 before I even made it to Ranger Station Charlie. Took an hour at the most, and I ate dinner in between.

-Gunny out.

Exactly my point.

With NO achievements we play the game for real selecting the type of character we wish to be; doing things the way we really want to do them.

But ...

with achievements ...

We all do "let's pretend we are playing the game" and, as 45ACP describes, we do things just to achieve the achievement in a style that has nothing to do with playing the game.

Someday I'll find out who invented the achievement because I like to attach deserved names to the word moron.
