I can not get into the NCRCF!

Post » Thu Oct 07, 2010 3:19 am

The quest "I Fought the Law" is broken for me.

I can't even approach the prison without being shot. I have avoided Powder Gangers completely in hopes that I can raise my karma enough with them to get in. But no matter what I do I can not approach the prison.

I get attacked by Dawes immediately. If I kill him I can go into the prison. When I go to the Admin building I put a stealthboy on and book it up the stairs and I still get attacked.

I was pissed off so I wiped them all out but then reloaded to a previous save. Is there anyway to reset this quest so it starts properly?

I may have killed a few PGs in the very beginning of the game but have mostly avoided them.

I am playing on PC so any console command I can use?

My followers are as follows:

ED-E (I know the bug revolves around ED-E)
Veronica
Boone
Lilly
Rex
Arcade

I have left all of my companions a great distance from the prison. If I were to fire ED-E would it fix the bug? Can I rehire ED-E is I fire him?

The PG's at Jean Sky Diving are always hostile no matter the rep (unless you wear their faction armor) so if you killed them then you lower the rep.
Nothing to do about it, if your rep is low and you can't use a faction armor then you'll have to forget about them.
Lucky you, there's always console commands for the PC.
But I think you should continue playing.
RPG's are about action and consequence.
What point is there to that if you're just gonna nullify it with a console command?

It doesn't take killing many PG's to lower your rep to Vilified. Not many at all. Once Vilified, some quest npc's will refuse to talk to you anyway. Some factions, you may be able to do enough quests for them to raise it upwards again, but I think PG's you can't. They don't have enough to do.

Seconded.

You killed some Powder Gangers thus their hostile and you can't do the quest. Next time do Ghost Town Gunfight after I fought the law Wearing powder ganger clothes won't help as the leaders will see through the disguise. Its not really broken [in this case]you simply can't start the quest. In any event the quest ending is bugged in that the game won't recognize and NCR victory. So if you were planning to betray them anyway you might as well finish them off yourself.

I've had this happen to me once. All I did was reload an early save.

Well that's BS. I may have killed one PG just to gain armor. Then I helped out that slob in Nipton. I even have a mod to save the guys on crosses.

Well, guess I'm on the right track. I'll just be killing everyone. Gonna go back and get my gang then and just go in and wipe them all out. I'm still pissed about it.

Wish you had posted this mod earlier...like say...yesterday.

The Powder Gangers are all dead. And I mean...all dead. I slaughtered every last one of them because I was so pissed off that I was unable to get to Eddie let alone do the quest. I went in with my fireman's axe, Boone, Lily, Arcade, ED-E, Rex and Veronica and we painted the walls red.

It wouldn't of been too difficult to load to an earlier save had I not continued on to do other things after killing them. But now its too late.

But, I will DL the mod and put it in my "future playthrough" folder so that I can use it on my next playthrough. Thanks. :)

Did that too. It didn't help. I still got shot trying to approach the prison.

Faction armour bug?
Usually the cause of such hostility, how are the legion or Khans reacting.
Just find any faction armour you've worn over the game.
Put it on then take it off again, if it's the bug it has to be from the same faction that caused it.
Most commonly from the NCR.

No issues with the Legion I am still able to wear Legion armor. I have only met the Kahns once so I can't say. And I have no issues with the NCR.

I thought it was the armor originally and did the put it on take it off thing and it didn't make any difference.

Darn, have you tried leaving ED-E and companions behind?

Also try loading up a fresh game to test this you're on PC so...
Start fresh.
Head straight for NCRCF.
Any hostile PG's on the way, just hit the console click on them and type KILL.
See how the facility reacts when you draw close.

If still hostile it may be a Mod issue.

If not, it's likely a bugged save or you did some minor issue to them at one point and it stuck.

Yup. I've left ED-E and all companions behind. I even tried it before I picked up any. I may try a new game and see if that helps.

The only thing I can think of is the very first quest you get when waking up in Goodsprings. I did that immediately at level 2 and ended the quest in favor of the town. Maybe that has something to do with it?

Yes, if you do the Gunfight in Goodsprings in favor of Ringo and the town you will be vilified with the Power Gangers immediately. When you get those messages that pop up after you do something, make sure to read them, it tells you who likes you and who hates you, also in your PiBoy under Stats/General, it will list your standing with the factions you're interacted with so you'll know why they are or aren't shooting at you. If you are unsure of what side you want to take, just skip Goodsprings, you don't even have to talk to Sunny and just go to the NCRCF like someone else suggested. The way I go is to stay on the right side of the highway that the Goodsprings Source is located, don't cross the road and don't go near Jean's Skydiving or the Gangers on the corner lot by the trailer, just stay on the other side of the road and cross over once you get past the NCR guard and on the bridge in the town, there are 3 frag mines so be careful not to step on them or I disarm them. The convicts in the town of Primm are not Powder Gangers, they are just Escaped Convicts or Convicts, killing them has nothing to do with the Gangers. But I just go along the wall outisde the town, past the roller-coaster and up that hill to the prison, bypassing any Powder Gangers that might want to use me for target practice. This allows you to get into the camp peacefully but make sure you have 100 caps on you to pay Dawes, otherwise he won't let you in. IF you side with Joe Cobb in Goodsprings and wipe the town out including Ringo, Dawes let's you in for free and your rep with them is already accepted.

BTW the gunshots you hear if you get near Jean's Skydiving is not the Gangers shooting at you, there are a ton of Bloatflies out there they are shooting at, just don't let them spot you and stay on the other side of the street and you won't lose any rep.

Damn, looks like I'll be doing Eddie's quest on my next playthrough. Since I'm way too into the game to go back. There was no way I'm going back to the beginning now.

I thought that if I had done enough good things for them it'd redeem myself so I could get in. Oh, well. It doesn't much matter now anyway, they are all dead.
