Finished FNV; Comments

I finished FNV last night; 299 hours of game time--really, I couldn't make 300! One-time through... Favorite quest was the main quest with every side quest the PC happened across/heard of played out. Although this was Steam/PC based I used the 360 controller. Using VATS was a mixed bag and I used it far less as the game advanced. Investigated and played out every empty triangle noticed except road in SW corner area of map--nothing drove me there. In the end PC sided with Yes Man for an independent New Vegas--good luck to them. At first I was going to go with Mr. House but didn't like the 'personal greed' of living forever and decided it was long overdue to give 'the machine' its chance. Lots of moral ground to play into this.

PC/Steam bugs and final thoughts for Bethesda:
1. Made countless hard saved games (well over 1300 of them) largely because the PC kept getting stuck in terrain; and the game kept 'crashing' stopping to work/closing down where I had forgotten to make a recent save--so the frequency of saving increased. Never used the quick save function and I suspect that was good. Used the console's 'tcl' to get the PC unstuck maybe 6 times but never during gameplay--always while exploring.
2. Capped the PC easily at level 30 maybe 3/4 of the way through the game. This was horrible because I needed more Speech but there was no way to get it. Played on Easy and sometimes Very Easy and that was good enough to still feel challenged and interested with little strategy needed; and I still spent a lot of time playing the game. It was always more a race to see how long I could enjoy the Wastelands and make the game last.
3. Bethesda--I resent you making exclusive things such as DLCs for one console and not all including the PC. That's marketing BS and I hope it bites you in the butt and you never do it again! I thought I was playing a great game and could have used higher levels and higher skills.

Good luck with your next game gamesas. Remember, please do not favor one console over any other.

yeah i finished it also, it was a fun game, i rate it about 7.5 if that, combat was easy since most of the enemies were using melee weapons like pool ques, not enough enemies on the map, you could hardly find ceasers legion anywhere, and when you did, too many of em were using dumb weapons like spears and macheties, not a lot of exploring, certainly not any good buildings to fight in and explore like in FO3, IE the capitol building, statesman hotel, lob enterprises etc. not many good battlezones, FO3 had lots of em, la enfant plaza, both sides of the capitol building, takoma industrial etc. oh and there were really no random events or encounters in new vegas, the map is static, all the respawns were static, no factions patrolled the map really, so the game was very predictable, once you went by an area once you pretty much saw everything that area had to offer. so i guess i'll wait for ESV and then FO4 which should be significantly better than NV was. but it was an ok game and at least we had a fallout game to play for a bit. its not a great game, its a good game, not up there like oblivion or FO3 was. not even close.

It doesn't sound like you got as much out of FNV as I did. That's okay. I don't look/wish for some tough shooting event around every corner. I played and finished FO3 before its significant DLCs came out. I was equally disappointed to miss them. But I think I enjoyed all the quests and storyline in FNV on a par with FO3. I'm looking forward to ESV too but I may not wait to get a new PC with more recent driving power then the gaming laptop I have now. I forgot to mention that I _did_ have a very jerky play throughout the final battle. It was still doable but if the whole game had run that poorly I would have quit and done something about it a long time ago. I don't know why the jerkiness got so bad at the end. Probably too big an area with too many things going on--even inside Hoover Dam.

If you want my score I'd have to go with 8.0 and weight all the quest involment more then the poor and outdated graphics engine problems. In the end bugs with quests was no issue--didn't happen...although the President's Speech quest was complicated and took several different passes to get through it properly enough for all the NPC to behave and move around once it was over.

it was a good game, but for pure exploration of the enviroment, there's not a lot to it, the story is great, the dialogue and characters were very good, there were lots of very good aspects to the game, but one of the most important aspects for me for is exploring the buildings and finding your way around complex structures, in "real life" after an apocalypse, exploration would be huge, that would take president over almost every other aspect, it certainly can't take a back seat, so as great as the game was in so many areas, it really doesn't have the pure exploration as a bethesda made game does, i guess i'm more of a bethesda fan, they give the player lots of freedom and things to do, so even if you wanted to ignore the quests you could just cruise around exploring every nook and cranny and fighting all the enemies around the map. new vegas you pretty much need to do the quests or there's not much to do at all.

I'm on my 5th playthrough, had most of the achievements after the 1st one, and I only have 1 more left (including DLC). I still enjoy this game, exploring every spot on the map, exhausting all dialouge options, and completing as many quests as I can. I was a HUGE fan of F3, but I enjoyed NV more IMO, even without as much focus on the aspects of F3 I like the most (the backstory/exploring aspect).

Doesn't matter. Bethesda marketed it and I'll bet they made the deal to release the DLC to exclude the PC. This was the first game in a long time on the PC where I resisted temptation and didn't need to cheat.

Unfortunately 'Comments' in the title should have been 'My Comments'. I wanted to say something about this game I spent so much time enjoying. I was not trying to defend my comments or solicit any others. I would rather a moderator lock this thread now. Thank you.

Personally, I like to do 3 or 4 varied playthroughs instead of one uberplaythough. You miss alot of the game content by only playing once. Even though you went everywhere and did "everything", you still missed out on half the game because situations play out a little differently depending on your past choices.

I usually try for a Paragon Male character and a Renegade Female at the very least. That Black Widow conversation with Benny alone is worth the price of admission for a 2nd playthough.
