ED-E a murderer? What the heck just happened?

Post » Mon Dec 20, 2010 8:55 am

I went back to Many in Novac to tuen in the Fly quest. I finished talking to him and the next thing I know he and ED-E are in a fire fight, for what reason have no idea. ED-E was better than Many. It doesn't seem to have hurt my rep or karma, but from a roll playing standpoint, it is certainly not optimal.

Is this a companion bug? Is it just specific to ED-E? Is it somehting that is supposed to happen? (Note that I am idoloized in Novac and have a high Karma, so neither should be a trigger.)

bump I would really like to know whether this is a NPC bug of whether it is something that is triggered and can be avoided.

I've checked out different pages on the Fallout Wiki site and there has been no bug of this sort reported, but it also isn't a trigger event. So I guess you should be proud that you've found a new bug :celebration:

Have you tryed loading a previous save/restarting your system?

I haven't had a problem in Novac, but while in the Vikki and Vance casino the entire room spontaneously began shooting at ED-E for no apparent reason. They didn't turn hostile to Veronica or me either.

I have had this happen at different locations such as Fort McCarren. I figured it was because ED-E is enclave and the NCR don't like them.

Yes, that is exactly what happened. I did reload (I am a compulsive saver) and it didn't repeat. I actually waited a while just to se if it might happen again.

I always save (frequently just a Quicksave, I live on the edge), right before I get to any people that are friendly and ED-E is with me. I've had him start firing a couple times. Maybe the whole ED-E shooting first and asking question later is on purpose and his story isn't over yet. I doubt it, but I like to think that way.

Yeah ED-E has done this to me probably 3 times, they were all occasions where I could have triggered a fight with the NPCs through conversation options, but I chose the non violent options, suddenly though ED-E is off firing. One of those times it might have been cross fire that caused it, ED-E and the robot guards into the Strip suddenly went at it, but just prior a random thug had tried to take on everyone.

Ed-E has to be bugged.

I convinced Chris he was human and after i went back to town ED-E became hostile to him and started to attack him after i talked to him.

Up at the Trading Post,i had been there twice with no problems, when suddenly the third time everyone decided they hated him and started shooting at him.The only difference on the 3rd go by was a gun runner mercenary, but she was cool at first and i think the arms merchant there was the first to go ballistic on him.

On Wednesday I was watching my dad play and the same thing happened to him. It was pretty funny though and he shot Manny because he was shooting ED-E. I lol'ed.

Had same problem in Helios 1, ED-E just started shooting up the scientist (i use the term lightly) but I didnt like him anyways so i left them to it. Must admit it does add an element of the unexpected I've just come to the realisation that ED-E is one crazy mutha.

I did not had issue like this with ED-E but I find him bit hard to control. Sometimes he seems to pick up fights with hostiles which I try to avoid even if he is set on defensive. I found out however that turning him to melee makes him harmless and follow you without problem.

May be it will prevent him to start fights with random NPCs as well.

I took to leaving companions outside of towns. ED-E got into a random shooting war in the Atomic Wrangler, and Cass who I had join me recently (and whom I love by the way - a whiskey supping hard chick, what's not to like?) got into a shooting war with the Silver Rush posse. Then on a second occassion she stood close to Pacer while I was doing the guarding mission at Silver Rush, and he interrupted his conversation with Simon(?) to say something to her, and the game just got stuck there. He stopped speaking. If I tried to leave my post they turned hostile. All times I had a recent save (BECAUSE THAT'S ESSENTIAL! lol) that I could back to.

So yeah, my advice, leave your followers outside of towns, unless you need them for a hostile mission or as part of their quests, and SAVE OFTEN NO MATTER WHAT YOU'RE DOING! Before a black jack game, before entering a building, before before before... everything. Heh ha. ^_^

I've heard of this. My friend encountered it and I didn't. The difference is I completed ED-E's sidequest and he didn't. I'm not sure if that really makes a difference or not but he was going through the game for a while without doing ED-E's sidequest where-as I seemed to stumble upon the areas which trigger the quest within a reasonable time. I don't want to post spoilers, but if you want to know where to go you should be able to find it with some searching or feel free to PM me.
