What's better: Oblivion or Fallout NV

Post » Tue Jan 11, 2011 2:58 pm

I have oblivion, it's pretty addicting once you're doing missions that require to enter people's houses to either kill or steal of them. But, is Fallout NV better than Oblivion? Is it worth it?

I prefer Oblivion, but New Vegas is still a great game, and well-worth a purchase.

Fallout 3 is closer to Oblivion than New Vegas is.

My Sister loves Fallout 3 and New Vegas but swears Oblivion is better than both lol :) I don't agree though.

If you like games that are repitiave, have dozens of fetch quests, about 10 really awe-inspiring quests, and if you like seeing all there is to see within 20 hours, go with Oblivion.
If you like variety, quality story and writing, sensible customization, and many great quests, go with New Vegas.
If you are the kind of person who is willing to play a game, AGAIN, AND AGAIN, for a high score, well Oblivion forces you through the same dungeon about 200 times.

New Vegas, far superior game, but not enough magic.

I don't agree with this at all and I have played Oblivion for years.

I like apples, and apples are really great. I hear oranges taste good, too, but they don't taste like apples.

I'm so confused!

I like Oblivion better, but not because its a superior game per se. I think its very much personal preference both games are excellent. Fallout has a nifty hardcoe mode wich requires your character to drink sleep and eat regularly and it has a better interaction system (as in your actions have more important consequences) and the leveling system is much better. The actual size of the game is shorter, and it has a more linear feel than the sandbox world of oblivion. All in all there is a lot of fun to be had, and New Vegas wont disappoint you. Its a very welcome addition to any library.

FNV beats Oblivion, imo. Not that I didn't play the heck out of Oblivion, though. I've been playing Beth's sandbox RPGs since Morrowind, and I would rank them:

4) Oblivion
3) Fallout 3
2) Fallout New Vegas (well, it's sort of a Beth game. Published by them any way)
1) Morrowind

In the end, just maybe, FNV will possibly take over as #1, but that remains to be seen.

They are too different, in pretty much everything to call one of them better over the other. I personally cannot stand Oblivion because I am not into fantasy type stuff, but Fallout NV's theme and genre do interest me.

While i LOVE the fallout Series, The Elder Scrolls is the best series ever created in my opinion.

Daggerfall,Morrowind are fantastic, Oblivion is not as good as Morrowind but it has nice graphics (with the high texture mod) and is a fun game so i'd say yes Oblivion is better. But, this is my personal feeling because i love the Elder Scrolls games. New Vegas is probably a superior game to most.

I would say both games are great in their own way. both deserve a place on any RPG fans shelf.

Do you like magic/fantasy? Oblivion

Do you like post apocalyptic? Fallout

I honestly don't know what else to say without going in to opinion.

I played oblivion with PC and loved it because of the mods but with xbox360 it was bit .....well.......not as good. I've only played F3 and new vegas on console and i've liked them a lot but i believe that with PC these games are much more enjoyable. MODS MODS MODS and more MODS.

MODS=replayability & endless opportunities. <--------This is something we consol gamers dont have.

I prefer Oblivion, as it's much more open ended. Whenever something like this comes up, I say the same thing:

Oblivion: Much more to do.

Fallout 3/NV: Less to do, but what is there is much more detailed. Exploring is more interesting, generally, and quests have many more options and ways to be completed.

That said, I prefer Oblivion over both games.
