I Blame the Victims!

Post » Wed Jan 12, 2011 12:18 pm

Okay, I now have New Vegas installed on two VERY different PCs. One is and older I7 desktop with an ATI card and the other is a newer I3 notebook with a low range Nvidia card.

I had a few minor bugs on the desktop before the first patch and no bugs and a single crash (in 12 hrs) on the notebook.

Seriously, I can’t speak to problems on the consoles, but on the PC FONV runs fantastic for a new release game!!!

I really think what some people are calling bugs is really them just being too inobservant to recognize a feature, like faction armor, trying to take opposing quests etc…

Or, you know, you're just lucky. Look at the bug forums some time. I've had only very minor bugs myself, but that doesn't mean those bugs don't exist.

Calling them stupid is going to turn this thread into a fire storm.

An inability to exit the casinos and go to the strip without freezing unless I'm wearing a certain hat is not a game mechanic. You're the idiot for thinking your incredible knowledge overrules everyone else who has had problems.

Also, every game with this engine has been buggier on consoles. Oblivion did it, so did Fallout 3, and now New Vegas. The engine was made for PCs and that's where it runs the best.

You're right... but seriously, I've seen people complain about things on the forums and in reviews that clearly aren't bugs...

Greatest... game mechanic... ever.

I'm going to have to keep that one in mind, should I ever make it as a software developer.

You blame the overwhelming majority of players regardless of whether they play on PS3, XBOX 360, or PC? Are you kidding me?! This game is riddled with glitches and it's only a matter of time before you start experiencing them. Especially since they tend to get worse the more the playthrough progresses. Rest assured, you will eat your words buddy.

Yes i7 and i3 are so very different, there are practically months between their launch dates.
I guess all those people who can't get past the launcher need to be more observant and use the "Play (without crashing)" button next to the normal one.

I think we are posting in a troll thread.

The hat in question is Caleb McCaffery's hat. I killed him and now I can't load the Strip without wearing it, I discovered this after being scared [censored]less that I was trapped in the Lucky 38 forever, but I found the cure by doing a little online research. It was lucky I didn't rush to turn in the hat.

I think you're being unnecessarily dismissive of the problems some people are encountering. It's running fine for me on a decent spec gaming PC too, but I don't feel the need to come here and start up a thread with what seems like the sole intention of rubbing everyone else's face in it. Good that it's running fine for you and me both, but what is the point of this thread exactly? "I blame the victims?" You ought to be ashamed of yourself.

I said I CAN'T speak for console problems... This is just the sort of inobservance I mean.

Look, I'm not referring to magic hats or things like that. I'm talking about people who rant and rave about failing quests they never started or being shot by friendly factions or unkillable deathclaws or a 100 other complaints I've seen here and elsewhere.

Most of those issues are due to people making mistakes or misunderstanding how the game works NOT due to bugs or glitches.

I don't know about unkillable deathclaws, but I HAVE been killed by unkillable fiends. Boone couldn't even hurt them. Jackasses.

But a lot of the bugs that people are complaining about are very long load times on the Xbox, consoles freezing, or problems with not being able to load saved games on some consoles - in fact very few PC players have complained - these bugs have nothing to do with their perception of the game, and are real issues for those experiencing them. Honestly I have not run into any bugs, but I feel you've done a bit of a 'bull in a china shop' routine here and charged in without (by your own admission) any understanding of what other people using different platforms may have gone through.

Yes I agree that when someone pops up saying that they can't advance a quest because they are being impatient and don't realise it is on a timer and they just have to wait a few days that can be annoying, but really you are not helping anyone by starting this thread, it just seems like an attempt at trolling. And that's coming from a fellow PC gamer who has experienced no bugs.

Tbh, New Vegas in the only Fallout game where I have experienced bugs. All the other game experiences were bug free for me, except this one.

For instance, I can't get Boone as a companion and complete the "one for my baby" quest because I'm unable to get a certain someone to walk to a certain place because they simply freeze and won't move again.

On PC btw.

I had only two small glitches the first few days. The problem with auto and quick saves and the flashing white spots outdoors. The patch took care of the saves problems quickly and the new Nvidia drivers took card of the white flashes. Since then the game has been running flawlessly for me (a little over 20 hours now). To be honest, I had very few issues with either Oblivion or Fallout 3 and all I saw in the forums were non-stop complaints about how shoddy and buggy the games were. After thousands of hours of relatively stable play with Bethesda's Gamebryo engine games I tend to think many (but not all of course) problems are brought on by the state the user's PC is in.

Yeah, the "Steam deleted my saves" thing was a feature. :D

(Ditto the people having huge FPS losses near NPCs, with certain graphics cards, fixed with a .dll file. That's a feature too.)

I didn't have the second one happne, but until I took Steam offline, I had the first happen.

(I'm not even counting the random CTDs... those have always been there in gamesas games.)

I'm playing on PC, and I've only had very minor bugs, so I too can't speak for the consoles. I also can't speak for anyone else.

Everyone's game is different. Not everyone will have the same bugs, so you and I just got lucky, OP. But people who are experiencing problems aren't making anything up, and the problems they have are certainly there. I don't see where this thread can go, honestly.

I think some of the bugs are simple user error. Example, people say "lol the game ends after the main quest" and that's just people being dumb. Ditto "Hey guiz, why does the legion shoot at me when I visit Caesar while wearing NCR armor?" Or the "hey, why won't Hardin work with the NCR???" complaints.

There are some bugs that can't really be user error though. I've had an almost flawless experience, but I understand that this apparently isn't true for everyone.
