I think you're getting WAY too caught up in the tessellation hype machine. I could write a novel on the topic of tessellation if you want me to get into why it's not going to be the next best thing in gaming.

Off topic, but looking at this at http://www.gamesas.com/tesselation
Something's messed up with that...

Please do, tessellation in METRO 2033 looked amazing and didn't have much of a performance hit.

I can't see tessellation as a bad thing and would love to see it in Crysis 2.

It's only bad if EVERYTHING is tessellated. Like all tools, it should be used where appropriate. Remember when bloom came out and suddenly every single game went bloom crazy?

Things like rocks in the distance no one is going to see 90% of the time don't need to be tessellated. I'm just worried about developers going overboard with tessellating things that really don't need to be.

BTW terrain in CRYENGINE 2 already uses tessellation ;) Not the hardware one but it is still tessellation.

I'm rather curious as well since I only know of tessellation in the mathematical sense and I'm not really sure how it applies to Crysis. Although it is 05:14 so my brain is currently off doing it's own thing and the answer could be staring me in the face for all I know.

tesseation in mathematical sence? could you explain it? (im keen on math a bit)
in pc graphics tesselation means that gpu adds more polygons to object thus creating more realistic shapes - but you lose some performance

personally i think if crysis 2 supports dx11 which it does right? then it supports also hardware tesselation
Originaly from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tessellation#Tessellations_with_quadrilaterals

In the subject of computer graphics, tessellation techniques are often used to manage datasets of polygons and divide them into suitable structures for rendering. Normally, at least for real-time rendering, the data is tessellated into triangles, which is sometimes referred to as triangulation.
Tesselation :D
