Thrown Weapons, too rare?

I recently made a character specializing in explosives that is lv16 now, and I intended to use throwing weapons when explosives were too dangerous to use.

I already have characters for each of the offensive paths you can take; guns, energy weapons, unarmed/sneak, and a melee weapons build. So I didn't want to use any of the skills I already have with my explosives character, but it doesn't look possible.

I'm trying to find thrown weapons, but they're too rare. Shops carry like... 2 and they don't do enough damage for how limited they are. Poison is cool, but not really all that useful for an explosives character.

Also, it's a real pain to reset inventories on the 360. You have to quit the game and exit to the dashboard (the 360s desktop). And make it boot the game up all over again and the date will magically be sunday (its a bug) and the merchants inventory will be reset. But this isn't fun to do at all, and I don't want to overwork my 360 (theyre fragile enough as is) just to play build properly.

I also find that they bug out in my inventory a lot. I deposited 3 throwing spears (all I had) in a crate, then exited out, went to my inventory and 10 more were magically created, but then I took my 3 spears back, and the 10 spears disappeared. Weird bugs like that.

I've also had the game freeze in vats when throwing weapons, and when unsheathing them.

I play on the xbox so I can't create them with a console command.

I'm probably going to have to just use 'em when I find 'em, but I'm finding this build very much lacking in excitement compared to others.

Go to Ceasars' camp and kill everyone, take their throwing spears.

But do you mean frag grenades and dynamite as well? Because there are loads of dynamite in this game, and by the way, Pulse and Plasma grenades aren't easy to find and cost a decent bit.

Why would you specialise in Explosives? It's intended as a backup skill, because missile launchers and grenades don't get you very far.

Throwing weapons are probably rare mainly because they're not that good. A good beats a thrown knife any time, and wielding that knife has more longevity.

Items disappearing like that could mean they're just glitch-stacking and being temporarily inventory 'invisible' until you start moving them around (which unstacks them). Happens to me all the time with other weapons/items.

I'm not up on Fallout lore, but it's felt odd that there are no bows in the game. I don't mean wooden Robin Hood bows, but good modern ones. Not as a weapon to be used in main close-combat or anything (like in Diablo's, the Amazon, *roll eyes*), but as an option for silent distant sniping vs. silenced guns. Too much extra work I guess.

But yeah, thrown weapons aren't represented much. I suspect it's similar to no-bows...more work, plus in a game where most are using long ranged gunnery, sorely outmatched and perhaps a bit out of place. Even most of the Legion will use guns and only toss a spear now and then/as back up.

It's no more a backup skill than unarmed is, you just need to be crafty and patient with it. And the reason was stated; I've done everything else.

Your whole post doesn't make any sense. Rare weapons are supposed to be useful, not useless.

As for explosives, I'm not having trouble finding those, though they are underpowered at times (some, not all).

True, bows would be expected. It's just disappointing I suppose, it feels like a tease, because the option is there, but not the functionality.

Ithink personally we should be able to recover them, due to rarity, and we can recover cases but no spears, so why not.

All together much too rare to be a real staple unless you want to keep waiting for the merchants to refresh. And I was so excited to make a spear chucking tribal build :(. I guess i still can but it will be a bit more challenging.
