In your opinion, what is the best armor for a non-luck based melee character?

Posts appreciated.

Remmants Power Armor DT 28 (If you have Jury Rigging and power armor training)
Combat Armor Mark II DT 20 is probably the best non power armor that you can use

Above is best tbh as are any other PA or Ranger Veteran CA, but my favourite is metal and advanced metal.

Guess which one I suggest for early on in the game, go on it'll be a suprise.

Spoiler
Metal

Surely a light-medium armor would be the best approach as melee is based on rushing the enemy? Combat MK II is probably the optimal approach.

Hmmm, I had a idea I might have to try.
Why not go with light armor - best I know of is reinforced leather. And get sub dermal implant & toughness x2.
Then get the travel light perk, oh and have 10 Agility.

You will run much faster - and get shot less, reducing the need to soak damage.
Also might want a 1-hander to compliment your 2-hander, you will move faster.

No it really isn't.

But then your not really soaking as much damage, if its small arms fire then it really doesn't matter its not a threat to you, a stimpack and your healing faster then your hurt. against bigger guns your going to want that extra protection. Then of course melee attacks tend to deal a lot more damage then firearms. And as your engaging those foes up close and personal you want that extra DT.

The speed difference simply isn't enough, if you want some extra speed wear the Telsa power armor which is classified as medium and has only slightly less DT protection then the regular Remnant power armor. And with jury rigging it can be repaired using any medium apparel. High DT protection and no speed penalty.

Heavy, heavy, and heavy.

Light? Absolutely not. Melee is about going into the shiz face-first.

Tbh I tried a full heavy armour build with a pure melee character and......

It's not that much different with it, I found even 9mm securitrons and 5.57 service rifles were still munching through my 34 plus DT.
One shot killing 6 securitrons once dropped my endurence 8 24+ character down to a quarter even with blocking LoS.

Against any wasteland critter it was just as bad, anything above a normal rad scorpion would blow right through my DT.
High level npc's with anything above a hunting rifle would as well, and taking on 3 ranger vets in the open with their 40 - 70 gov weapons was a nightmare challange.
While seeing your own 38+ damage blows not punch through their armour and taking less then you do against semi automatic lower tier weapons kind off makes you ponder whether heavy armour is worth it.

Light works for me, since most attack is either beyond help even with Power Armour DT (like DeathClaw and Lakelurek sound wave), or easily handled by Reinforced Leather Armour with 2xToughness and Sub-Dermal armour.

I do however always wear T-51b helmet.
