Crysis 2 multi-player maps and editor

Post » Sat Feb 27, 2010 3:22 am

Anyone heard about the multi maps and editor of Crysis 2 ?
im hoping so much they provide again an editor to create/modify multi-player maps.
So cool to see how far the creativity of the players goes and to make the new maps created available online for the whole world to enjoy it.
examples of awesome crysis 1 created/modified multi-player maps:

HAWKE ISLAND
VILLAGER 2.1
VILLAGERWARS
STEEL MILL SNOW
NRW_INDUSTRIAL
YOKUSHU
Z-JUNGLE
SPHERE_IA
ROOFTOP
...

people did countless steelmill re-do's. all too easy to open up the level folder open some barrels up, drop some vehicles in and call it "your creation" .. none ever were used much, cause they are just tooo similar to the original!... so people played the orginal without trying to find download or when the autodownloader finally worked in last patch in cw...when crysis's was dead by then. but at least they finally figured out how to implement the audodownder years after it was needed. In FC2 now, what was a selling point with it's MP is ruined, as it practically never works under windows7! luckily FC2 has a nice number of standard maps, unlike crysis had.
If they can nail a few awesome maps....that create good battles... that is what is needed quite frankly.... other old mp games are kept alive with awesome standard maps that are run on 24/7 single map servers ;) cod games has em, fc, etc. a dedicated mp team should mean ...should... get some real map efforts this time.

You ever went on HAWKE ISLAND ? (IA mp map) i pretty sure i was created from scratch. HUGE WORK and very pro. (not by me).
too bad VERY few people set foot there.

no i don't recall that one. personally i love small/medium sized custom maps, so there is less camping and more close clever reaction battling. i made a few far cry maps, one of which has been used loads by the last lot of fc clans playing over last year... "FW_sniper_train" - google it, my site should show in the list too. such a simple map and idea, but it looks proffesional and works like a dream for small battles, fc clans love it, shame i released it so late into fc's life. Never got around to releasing crysis maps, never seemed enough people playing custom maps through the years, till the end with cw and the autodownloader.

No offense, but i hate almost all of the custom maps aside from Pooldayv2 and a couple others. Most people just have no clue how to make a good map and they all just svck, and its a waste of effort to even click the server. A good example of this is "Ferrets Place", which steals all the USA TIA players (cry), into some stupid ass mod any real player would throw their computer out the window after playing.

The Crysis Wars autodownloader is still quite bugged. About 30-40% of the time, the game will crash once it starts loading the downloaded map, for some reason it only happens the first time.

Also, Far Cry 2 doesnt support Windows 7, so it doesnt matter to Ubisoft that it doesnt work. Anyway, there is a simple solution to the autodownloader in Far Cry 2 (unlike Crysis Wars bugged one):

Download the winhttp.dll from
http://www.mediafire.com/file/eyzigmnf00q/winhttp.dll
and place it into your main FC2/Bin Folder.
Restart your game.
That's it. Fixed.

That is a pretty dang simple fix, much more simple than any fix for the Crysis Wars autodownloader would be. :P While i tend to hate Crysis Wars custom maps 95% of the time (i like poolday and about 15 others), i tend to love most of the Far Cry 2 maps that their community puts out. FC2 has some talented mappers that know how to have you fighting an intense battle and the sides are always balanced, they have a great community. :)

I agree that most custom maps are of very low quality; poorly balanced and spammed with vehicles.

The sad part is that the few exceptions that are good, like from crymod, never make it on these servers -.-

done that, and guess wot it doesn't work. many others done that too and no fix. so its NOT a fix for everyone on win7, something else.

unlike !BUTTKICKERS!

/shameless advertise

but i do agree, it really bugs me cos all the good maps get covered by really bad maps that are made by people who have spent no longer than an hour on the map

Last time i checked, Buttkickers was a vehicle warfare server. How can it not be spammed by vehicles? o.0

Not many people are good at making maps.

Those who put real effort into making maps will be feel like they did a good thing. And then for us, the people who download it, will like it very much.

I for one am still new at making maps, but I'm learning various workflows and object placements which should benefit me when the comes for me to work on a new map.

Some people make maps out of fun, so really, they don't care about the quality, just about the fun, hence why there's alot of these odd and pointless maps.

The sandbox editor is available for everyone. It's for those who just want to have fun, or for those who really want to become a top level designer.

My guess?

Level editing only.

No SDK at all.

But CE3UDK type thing will come out prior to crysis for stand alone titles and modding. Will we find a way to mod crysis 2 from that ce3udk? Oh yes, of course we will.
