Why was COD4 totally amazing but the rest svck? (Opinions?)

Post » Thu Apr 22, 2010 9:50 am

Seriously, it was, and still is, one of my absolute favorite games, but all the other CODs are terrible. I get why, but not why. I mean, I know the gameplay reasons, the story reasons, the amount-of-skill-needed-to-play reasons, but what I want to know is, after such an amazing game, how did the rest get SO bad? How did that happen, the second one should have been amazing after that, but the SP was only kinda good, and the MP was TERRIBLE. The difference is like the new Medal Of Honor's SP vs its MP, its crazy...

Simply put, I think that the series is now catering more towards the "Ooh, shiny!" crowd than people who could tell when things are imbalanced etc. (although I never played CoD4 as Crysis released a few weeks later and I played that).

Reason why MW was better: Mods and maps.
Reason why MW2 and Black Cops and WaW isn't: Milking the franchise every year.

Also remember that Call of Duty 4 was a big, but different leap from it's predecessor, Call of Duty 2. It was perfect, and the fact that they went modern was pretty cool, but something fresh, for its time. I also believe some players were against the killstreaks, since that was the first game to introduce it.

Now, well, lets just say that some upper management idiot from Activision thought it'd be good to keep the same stuff for each iteration, not improving major gameplay components, but instead making minor improvements, and releasing the same rehashed game for £45 ($60).

There are honestly better games out there. Call of Duty has gotten milked to bits.

CoD is awful because..

1. Its been turned into an annual event.
2. Its pretty much the same game every year.
3. The developers make no attempt at weapon/perk/etc rebalancing at all.
4. No support for a competitive scene.
