Crysis 2 Freezing

Post » Fri Jun 25, 2010 11:52 pm

I bought this game this morning, and to my disdain, it froze within ten minutes of gameplay. I had similar problems when using DX11 to render Dragon Age II, and these issues were never addressed by developers or ATI. I've tried everything I can on Crysis, given it's complete lack of an advanced graphical menu, and it's starting to really bug me. My stats are as follows, and the game crashes (during cutscenes) even on the lowest settings:

ATI Radeon HD 5850
6GB DDR2 RAM
Intel Core 2 Quad @3.2 GHz
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

...etc. I can't seem to find a fix for any of this, but I've never had any issues with my graphics card up until DA2 came out, and now this is happening. I don't think that it is a graphics card issue, but rather a driver or game-related one, due to the universal nature of the problem at hand.

If anyone is having the same problems and can offer a possible solution, it would be so helpful. I just want to enjoy the game-- I've been waiting forever. Thank you for any help in advance!

same thing on my end with my ati 4890. It seems there is a GPU memory leak with windows 7. I have had the same problems with at least three other games. Now i have good news and bad news. The good news is running the game in windows XP foxes the GPU freezes. Of course there is only bad news if you dont have a copy of XP. Im finished with ATI. I always run into a hitch on any given game with their GPU's. they have turned me against them and i plan to buy NViidia from now on. Hope this helps man!

Then perhaps running in WinXP compatibility mode will help? Worth a try.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. I'll give it a shot.

No luck. The same thing happens. The lack on option to change renderer is the real problem here, I think. DirectX 11 is **** up on 5850s more than anything else, as far as I understand, and not being able to change it to DX9 or 10 is just irritating. I'm kind of pissed that there's not a more extensive graphics customization system. That alone might make this problem negligible.

I posted this in the Xbox 360 discussion forum, but thought I'd post it here as well.

My game has froze up a few times as well.

---Possible Spoilers----

The first time is on Mission 4 (Lab Rat) where you had to fight the helicopter in Gould's lab. I got killed by the helicopter's missiles and when the game re-loaded the level....it froze up. After I turned my Xbox 360 off and back on and then tried to restart from my last save point....the game would just freeze up after the level loaded up. I went to the mission select and selected the mission, that I was on, then it worked fine again.

Another time is at the beginning of Mission 8 (Seat of Power) where you first meet Hargreave. When I was killing the Ceph ticks (bug like enemies) the game froze up on me while trying to kill one of them.

-------------

Anyways, it seems like others are having freezing problems as well. I really hope that the development team will look into this and fix the problem(s) as soon as possible.
