Gun balancing ideas

Post » Fri Jun 25, 2010 8:15 pm

Firstly this isn't going to be an overpowered argument, just somethings i think will help people use other guns. Firstly slighty increase the power of the k volt. I like the look and feel of this gun but it just doesn't cut it same goes for the M20 14 Gauss this should be a one hit kill to the head and the chest.

What do you guys think about the shot guns in this game? Underpowered?

I think the shotguns are well balanced, the K-Volt damage is fine as its main thing is to drain the nano suit which it does perfectly, the only gun that is underpowered to be honest is the sniper rifle.

It's works good if you drain their energy with it then switch to your majestic. Does the job. I don't care for snipers.

I found the kvolt works better with rapid fire on, same goes for the feline. Get those couple extra shots in there to kill the other guy before he kills you.

Correct me if i'm wrong as i haven't had much of a chance to play with the DSG1 on retail version but is it a single headshot kill with the DSG1, regardless of armour mode on the victim?

No it takes 2-4 shots sometimes...have not tried the gauss out yet but the dsg1 is underpowered.

DSG1 I use often with the silencer. It's a 1 shot kill to the head often for me. Not used the M20 14 Gauss yet seems I've not unlocked it but are you serious that it's not even a 1 hit kill to chest or head with it? The damage on the M20 is way higher than the damage on the DSG1 and that is 1 (sometimes 2) shot kill to the head, 2 (sometimes 3) shots everywhere else (while using silencer, not sure if that reduces damage or not). The M20 must be broken if it's that bad... :S

As for the K-volt... It's simply useless when putting yourself up against other weapons. I can't find the balancing factor of the energy drain for it because every time you go up against someone and you're draining away their energy... Their gun has killed you with armor on in 2 seconds. Where's the use in energy drain primary weapons against guns that can mow you down even with armor on?

I could understand an energy drain grenade as it can be used more tactically. The K-volt is basically just a "Let's hope I catch them from behind so they have no energy before shooting" weapon. I'd rather just stealth kill them or use a normal weapon that can kill them faster from behind leaving no possibility for them to turn around afterwards and retaliate...

maybe if the k volt had 2 firing modes it would be more useful but i agree completely its pointless to drain someones suit energy when they can kill you regardless. Especially when armour mode seems to be bugged and fails half the time. Its hardly fair that say given the scenario i have to drain a guys entire suit energy before i even effect his health and he can attack my health regardless with say the feline. Also i think its at another disadvantage because no silencer can be attached i think it should be made that energy weapons do not give off an acoustic signature in game to balance this issue. I mean every scientist knows that a magnetic round would travel faster then the speed of sound anyway so would hit its target before the shot was heard, also there is no gun powder in these energy weapons either so theres a way to back up the argument.

With regards to the m20 yes it really is terrible thats the easiest and most polite way to put it, ive had some successful games with the dsg1 but most of the time its a 2 shot kill to the head. Normally as a sniper i use the time to tag enemies, it would of been nice that for snipers the tagging ability was included in the scope or there was a tagging scope attachment because you dont really have the time to switch to your visor then switch back and i think this would give people a greater reason to snipe whist also aiding there team. ( maybe theres something for the guys at crytek to consider in a dlc) a tagging scope attachment for sniper rifles, it wont auto tag because maybe thats unbalanced but enemies can be tagged with the square button just like the visor. What do you guys think about that?

Square to tag while scoping to aim and shoot and also move to avoid being shot or sniped yourself is like tongue twisters for your hands... It just isn't going to work.

i could handle it, i think its much easier and more convenient then being stuck in visor mode, start getting shot at, switch back to gun, aim at the person shooting at you and then start firing. I think its alot easier and would become second nature i mean its only one extra button a thumb tap away and dont forget that if tagging normally your still using the same aim buttons anyway especially if you zoom in with L1 and whilst tagging through the visor you cant shoot at an enemy anyway and you probably wouldn't while sniping. If your sniping and decide to tag someone instead of take them down then you've already given up that opportunity to shoot anyway.

I used to tag people in battlefield with the select button whilst sniping and that's much more awkward, but it never hampered my game play.

True I guess I'm just not comfortable with tagging in general with the square button seems aiming is also with the left thumb. The speed people move on this game, by time you've aimed directly at them with the right trigger and try to press square they're out of the shot again. As for aiming with the left thumb on the right stick to free up the right thumb for square, that's good but my aiming with my left thumb is just dire... lol

Select on BF is much easier as your right thumb is free to still aim.

This is way off topic though...

It was just an idea, other buttons could be used like depressing the left thumbstick or even the select button again. Was just trying to think of something to encourage people to snipe and to also aid team work

I have mentioned in other threads as well. Sniping in the game is difficult due to the speed of the game. The DSG is 1 shot kill to the head but getting the head shot is tricky for the reasons mentioned above.

I do like the idea of being able to tag using a different button (but using the L3 button actually zooms the sniper scope so a different button will be needed). But as Ozone-02 mentioned, if you are tagging somebody, you have already missed the very slim opportunity you have to get a shot off (and even smaller opportunity to get the head shot)
And yeah Cry-Adam, boot up the retail version and give the DSG a go so you can see for yourself. It isn't impossible but it is difficult.

Your wrong its not always a one headshot kill on the retail version. MMMM maybe you need to read all the complaints about the serious lag issues the retail version has !!

The dsg1 would be a great sniper rifle but switching off cloak before you shoot svcks i always miss headshots between that and lag should be just like killzone 3 you shoot someone in the foot while cloaked they are dead and your cloak goes down

K volt needs faster projectile speed and reload time. It's like reloading an m60 lol. All the guns with lower damage and faster rate of fire all need their clip sizes increased by 10 so it matched the same efficiency as the SCAR(feline, scarab, kvolt). Gauss does need a damage boost to be 1 shot kill if shot in chest unarmored. The MIKE needs it's range increased by 3 and it's clip size increased by 50. L Tag could be more like the grenade launcher attachment and have less arc so it's easier to aim.Majestic should be able to get extended mag increasing clip size by 2. And that's about it for my gun assessment. I'm rank 49 and I've tried everything. SCAR is still the best sadly. U get more bang for your buck bulletwise and can kill 2 guys with 1 clip easy. The rest of the guns should be altered to fit that format.

Makes me wonder how many people at Crytek played the retail version. This could explain a great many problems with multiplayer. The pump action shotgun is pretty much useless since you get shot while trying to pump it.

when i was able to unlock the k volt, i used it to take it out on the people that used it on me all the time. i had success because they would die quick and they couldnt defend themselves since they obviously had their energy drained but now i cant find the success i had with it earlier so i switched to the feline and im having success and i dont think it'll fail me like i believe the k volt had.
