I'm going to put the whole story down here. For the only reasons that it may help explain why the game won't patch.

I purchased this game via DIRECT2drive. First time using Direct2Drive (UK SITE).. And last * time as well...

I don't know if its EA's DRM fault. Or the fault of D2d. But I spent over two hours fiddling about trying to get the game to even install. And I have been using computers for a long time, I'm not some noob..

1. FIrst thing that went wrong. Is that for some reasons the Crysis2zip would not extract from the D2d Download manager.

Ok no biggie. I'll do manual extract

2. So I extract the files via winrar. Everything went ok.. wait hold on. The Installer is asking for the cd in drive c:\ -_-. On a digitally downloaded product? eh ...(why is 9gb files is even in a zip format anyway)

3. So after some hunting around on the D2d Site I find some interesting info. For whatever reason the zip files from D2d Doesn't like WInrar, and it causes that error. So you have to use winzip.. ok whatever I DL winzip and extract files yada yada..

Files extracted.. problems over right?

no...

4.The Crysis2 installer would not install the game. Kept giving some error about lack of permissions to Crysis2.exe even though I gave admin rights and I have bought this product legally. (I'm guessing this is EA's smart DRM in action).

5. I've already spent three hours messing around with this buggy piece of DRM ****. If the games copy protection is so strict that it causes customers brain cells to pop. Don't sell it online. And don't waste peoples time and money..

Anyway. last resort as I could find no work around to this. . I was bored and tired of it. So I go and download a crack released by a piracy group to try to get this product which I just paid for to install. If anyone wants proof that I have bought this game I can provide proof. I PAID FOR IT. But also had to download a crack to install the damn thing. So I download their hacked executable and plopped it in my install folder. everything goes swimmingly. And the game installs.


So I can play single player now, which is something. And I can enter my product key in the game menu and log in to multiplayer. But I can't patch this game. You know it's just problem after problem.

I'm getting this error.. “Crysis 2 cannot be located in your system. Please reinstall the game and try to run the patch again“ I've tried the REGedit work around and no joy.

Atm I'm fairly pissed off. I've spent at least six hours just trying to get this piece of software to to just do basic bottom line functionality such as install correctly and patch properly. And it's just not happening... Anyone know what's going on? Is it the use of the cracked .exe? If so how do I get the friggin product to install on the original .exe without it quitting h and demanding permissions. /sigh.

I pre-ordered Crysis 2 aswell @D2D uk.
Install the EA Download Manager (I used it for all my EA games because I love it <3) and enter your crysis 2 key in the DLM.
(Main Menu -> settings -> Redeem Game Code)
Once you entered your code, Crysis 2 should appear.
Then you just click Download Now (or ready for download, whatever i says) and just download it.

This way you don't have to install the game, you don't need to dike about with discs, just click play and be on your way =)
I personaly use the EA DLM for 8 games, have yet to have any problems at all
