Crysis 2, CPU hungry?

Post » Sun Jul 18, 2010 6:39 pm

Any idea if this will be a CPU hungry game? Coz I have got Crysis running really smooth with everything turned on at max with my intel Pentium dual-core @ 2.50 GHz (E5200) and my XFX GTX 275 GPU (will be getting a EVGA GTX 480 soon)

Just wanna know what you guys n' girls think since Crysis wasn't a CPU hungry game, although a very Graphics hungry game.

Would it be worth upgrading to a quad-core? or do you think i should just get a i7 chip and motherbored?

Thanks in advance :)

i think you can run it with dual core
i have a 2.5 Ghz
i can run it i think because i can run Crysis on mid settings
and cevat said one time that you can run Crysis 2 on high or higher if you can run Crysis 1 on Mid settings

Woah.. thats a very insecure thought of yours.
That was a promise from Crytek... but dont take these more "promo" related statements as a guarantee.
There were several promises for Crysis 1 too that never appeared to be true.
I think with something like a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2,4 GHZ you will be on the save side. Grfxcard GTX 260-275 or Radeon 4850 for good results. But even that is only a speculation of mine...

@ blake.. it depends on how much Crysis 2 and the new engine are truly optimized for multiple cores and Multithreaded Rendering (DX11).

Dual cores will run it, but no-one who wants very high will be using a dual core, unless it's clocked to something silly like 4GHz :P

I suggest you upgrade your processor to the i5 750, and get a 285 or 460 gfx card.

Crytek claims that Crysis 2 will run better than Crysis, but there is no way in hell I will believe them. Many people bought a Q6600 for Crysis by Crytek's recommendation, and it turned out to perform WORSE than a E6600. I simply refuse to believe that Crytek is still optimizing for the old dual core series. Quad Core is the new standard anymore, with still good optimizing for the i5 dual cores. However, the Dual Core E series architecture is old and the optimizing will be crappy by my guess.

Upgrading to the i5 750 and a GTX460 will set you back $600, but it will have you set on the motherboard for another three years, and Crysis 2 will run like a charm.

Indeed, but i'd hold back on the gpu for 2 months, the AMD hd6 series is out in 2 months.

I hate the lack of an edit button -_- anyways, snady bridge cpu's are also coming out soon and although amd fusion are going to be the superior packages overall, it won't matter because if nothing else they'll push prices down.

The problem with upgrading to anything intel atm is that they're also screwing their customers over with extreme amounts of locking down of multipliers next generation (so no overclocking at all) and you'll require another motherboard the next time you upgrade.

Also, AMD's processors may need a new mobo with the next generation too, so it's uncertain both ways. However AMD processors currently go up to 6 cores for around the same price as the i5 750 and also provide better performance in multi threaded optimised games, making them a better choice at this moment in time.

With GPU's, you can't go wrong with a gtx460, but if you can stretch for it, a hd5850 will always be better, just for the mammoth overclocking abilities.

would it be worth going for the i5 760 over the i5 750? becuse it's going for a much better price, pluss from what i have seen it offers a bit more power.

i5 760 @ 2.80 GHz - Scan.co.uk = £145.88

i5 750 @ 2.66 GHz - Amazon.co.uk = £157.54

so, i5 760? or i5 750?

Why put down say £150 for a dual core, you would be better off getting a quad core, knowing that you will be able to run future games fine and not have to waste £150..

Phenom II x4 945 @ 3.0 Ghz - Amazon $200 new or $140 used.

i7 930 @ 2.8 Ghz - Amazon $290 new or $250 used.

Both are very good cpus.

You can't go wrong with either purchase, both will have plenty of juice to run Crysis 2.

Dunno where you get that from as i did a direct comparison bench between the E6600 and the Q6600 when i did my upgrade and the Quad
performed about the same on High (expected with such heavy GPU usage) with a slight improvement on the Quad on Medium.

RE: 750 vs 760 - The 760 is the 750's replacement and runs at a higher clock speed, so yeah, you'd be silly to buy the more expensive 750 :)

Sorry, i meant E6700+

Higher clock speed beats more cores w/lower speed for the CryEngine 2.
