[Questioon] GPU requirements for Crysis 2

Post » Wed Jul 21, 2010 3:08 am

Hi.
I would like to ask if someone knows maybe what to expect.
Will 5870 be enough for this game?

Thank You.

Crytek always work with the cutting edge stuff... you can be sure that there will be an option for DX11

The main reason that setup wans't a DX11 one was because the GTX 260 only offers up to DX10... no idea why it's not DX10 instead of DX9, mabye it's the same as the Crysis graphics setup was... DX10 only worked when set in 'Very high' graphics settings... which wasn't an option for Windows XP users ('very high' options would be greyed out), and the PC graphics setups at gamescom were only on 'high' and not 'Very high'... so that MIGHT be why it's DX9. but dont take my word for it.

Here is a video froms gamescom on PC and xbox360... the PC specs are shown.

Crysis 2 runs better than the original, plus the game runs on consoles now, so that says something. A hd5870 won't break a sweat, even compared to crysis 1.

Also, that video was frustrating. The differences look minimal because

a) even at 720p it's still far too blurry
b) the pc version is above 720p, so comparison on the video is useless
c) it ran at 30fps, again, favouring the 360
d) HIGH! What the hell were crytek thinking? THEY'RE RUNNING THEIR BRAND NEW GAME ON 2 YEAR OLD TECH! Definitely not the same crytek that made crysis 1, that's for sure :/

Yeah, i agree. It said it was on the PC, and i was like "what"? I could barely notice a difference between the PC and Xbox versions, aside from the quicker and more precise aiming of the mouse.

This video is so much more kick-ass than anything i have seen of Crysis 2 Nanosuit related.

wow. y do people still ask these stupid questions?? i mean offence, but seriously how the hell r we supposed to know these things? Crytek hasnt released any info on requirements. All they've said is that CE3 runs better then CE2, by which i think they mean its more optimized not that its actually easier to run. if u want Crysis 2 maxed out, get a GTX470 or GTX480. i just got me a GTX470 a week ago and i think SHOULD do fine.

People can't find these things out on their own because there are no sticky threads or a search function for the website.

Incorrect. DX10 API was used though, object motion blur was one of the only main features utilised. Crytek were one of the first adopters of DX10 and were even emulating the features off of prototype DX10 GPU's. DX10 delivers subtle features which can be easy to miss.

So to play games on DX10 you need DX10 GPU and DX10 OS (windows vista, and windows 7).
Is that correct?

I played crysis on very high ( turns on DX10) on xp sp2.

It does not "turn on DX10", as i just stated above. "Very High" is not "DX10", however through the default configs, CryEngine2 does enable some DX10 specific features via the Very High config setting which still aren't enabled when running DX9. :)
