Crytek - A Serious and Heartfelt Plea

Post » Tue Aug 03, 2010 5:45 am

Hello all at Crytek,

I'm writing you now not angry or frustrated. With what I'm about to say is not intended to flame or berate you. I have gamed on a PC since my first computer which was a 486/66mhz with 8mb ram. I was 11, addicted to Red Alert and fluent in DOS command line. Hell, at the time my mother taught me how to write bat files to unload unneeded drivers to free up ram just so Red Alert would run!

I've gamed on the PC ever since. Im 27 now and while that may not be near the tenure many folks on these forums may have I consider myself a PC loyalist. But in all fairness I will add I've owned a NES, GameBoy, SNES, N64, PSX, PSX3, PSP, and Xbox 360. All of which I ended up rarely using due to their limitations and lack of appeal to those who like to "tinker".

I'm going to be honest with you. I didn't buy Crysis 1. Have never played it either. Read up on it years ago and wasn't interested. But what I did know, and learned quickly, was Crysis was the benchmark for PC gaming for several years to come after its release. It's what we all looked at to pour our hearts (and money) into our rigs to play that and other high end titles. It was the champ to beat per say.

You literally defined, with one game, years of computer gaming. Every benchmark on every CPU and Video card after which was "Crysis this" or "Crysis that".

You set the bar. There is no telling the monetary influence you projected upon the PC hardware market. Crysis was far beyond its time. You accumulated millions of PC fans around the globe with one piece of software.

I hope now you can see why people may be so angry with you. You set an industry standard for thousands of PC gamers. Made millions of fans. And now they feel betrayed. Why wouldn't they? Crytek was known for the best, now they are known for the economics.

This is my plea to you; to not push PC gamers aside. Were aware that the console market is more lucrative. After all, in these times not everyone can afford a rig that burns more wattage than an oven on Thanksgiving. But were still here. Many are still loyal fans to you. Im sure thousands would have waited for a more "PC" version than what Crysis 2 is today. Many of us don't simply get our enjoyment and satisfaction from playing the game. But playing the game on something "we" made. Something that we pieced together, put effort into, and have cared for. Much like many of you may bring from caring for your favorite classic car or garden. It's not the speed or the sweet taste that satisfies you. It's the fact that the result is the embodiment of your very efforts. That is and has always been what defines PC gaming.

Please don't forget your roots. The loyal fans who made Crytek who they are today. With Crysis 1 you inspired thousands to drop double in cash on a video card than what someone pays for an Xbox. It's time to set the bar back high again, dont be contempt with mediocrity. Why not develop for the best and work your way down from there? A little more cash in development? Sure.. Maybe a lot. But you keep those who have relied on your past PC commitments next to you now and for years to come. Don't end up like others and bank your titles on a name. Base them on your commitment to those loyal to you.

Stick to your roots Crytek.

Don't let others dictate who or what you should be.

- Peace. And Thank you for your time.

Xbox will sell more copies and make them more money. Crytek is a business. Crysis 1 sold a lousy 1 million copies. I guess PC gamers spent too much on their fancy GPU's and didn't have enough money left to buy the game.

3 million... more than any console game ever sold...
I know some people that picked up copies of the original even just last year... the game still sells...

"Crysis sales exceed 1 million"
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/99063-13-crysis-sales-exceed-million
After listening to the Q3 2008 Electronic Arts Earnings Conference Call we have learned that Crysis has been a strong performer with sales having exceeded expectations. EA also reported Crysis reaching the platinum mark meaning over 1 million copies of the game have been sold worldwide.

I'd like to point out the "exceeded expectations".

And that was 3 years ago...

Im sure sales more than handily exceeded 3 million copies. That's a hell of a success.
No reason to believe it would bomb on PC with Crysis 2 for some mystical reason.

Crysis 1 has sold over 3 million copies as of May 2010.

The OP's post is outstanding and basically describes almost exactly how I feel. While I understand that piracy took a big chunk out of Crytek's pocketbook, they have punished the rest of us for it, giving us a console port instead of rewarding their loyal PC fanbase that made them millions of dollars with a proper sequel. No matter how you look at it, Crytek flat out lied to us the ENTIRE time right up to launch day, and then fell silent and have ignored us all. I really wonder if this is Cevat punishing us all for pirating Crysis.

Either way, I really hope that Crytek has a surprise in store for us. My Crysis 2 DVD has DX9, DX10, and DX11 files on it. Let's hope that they did this on purpose to give us a taste of disappointment and make us feel like they did when they found out their original game was stolen time and time again, and then reward us with a patch among patches that will make Crysis 2 the benchmark of benchmarks.

There's gotta be one of you 10 iq, adhd morons every time someone writes something intelligent and well argued.

On topic, i'm exactly in the same boat op. (as a side note I'm 26 and my first computer was a 486 with 4 mbs of ram)

I really just want Crytek to be honest. Tell us your game plan, just tell us there will be no DX11 or there will be one with a patch. There still is no official comment on this matter, by that I mean some crytek employee should post it on their official website, I don't take random gaming websites words as confirmation.

I just saw a program someone in these forums made that allows us change the detailed graphics options in the game. The fact that it took this person a couple of days to make that program shows that Crytek didn't even had those few days to improve the pc version of the game. What a shame. It really is just spitting to your fans' face. I really hope they realize the disappointment they caused and make it up to their longtime fans.

The original post was awesome. So was the original Crytec. This game was what I have been waiting on for years only to have a watered down console port that is clearly broken in both multiplayer and the single player experience. One of the huge things for me was to be able to upgrade my suit and customize it to the way I wanted it. That is now broken. I can't even get the game to remember my multiplayer code, I keep losing my pre-order perks. I guess the Preorder, should have been labeled Beta Order.

Great point. EA's disease spreads through so many games its crazy. That came to a head with their latest basketball game that wasted millions of dollars. EA always rushes out everything because the company is lead by some of the most money hungry execs the world has ever seen. It's too bad that a good company like Crytek is under the heavy boot of the criminals at EA.

This all comes down to the pursuit of money, in itself the worst disease our world has.

CnC4 was all hype and no result? Did you forget about CnC3? It was all hype and no result. ****, Red Alert 3 was worse than CnC3. Tiberium Dusk was at least playable. I can't imagine how terrible Tiberium Twilight was.

I still have Red Alert, Counterstrike and Aftermath's original disks... somewhere. Also have RA2's box (original version, with twin towers burning) and disk, Yuri's Revenge disk. Got CnC1 somewhere. Tiberium Sun + Hellfire disks as well, probably manuals to all of them too.

+1, I is a gtx 285, Q6600, 4GB DDR2, 2 works in crysis is extreme to 40fps on average but everyone who you buy a graphics card just for style cry2 gtx580 or gtx590 in the last 750euro, discovers it is DX11 crysis 2 without you promised, I will be very upset at their place to have a config 3000euro (dolar) and do not do better than a config as me, you must do something! is not only added some blur or I do not know what, but a true difference with extreme, a kind of extreme single DX11, I'm bummed because I do not recess for not having DX11.

I forgot where on the Crytek site, perhaps the community section, Crytek stated that "We remember our roots" in a description of said section.

Unfortunately, they did.

With Crysis 2 came the removal of MAJOR, and I mean MAJOR features of the game. The features that made Crysis and Crysis Warhead, and the multiplayer of Crysis Wars.

Our graphics are gone, the incredible maps that took sandbox to the next 5 levels are gone. The game became linear; non linearity is a feature that doesn't come up often enough. Massive multiplayer maps that give the Fallout Wasteland size a run for its money are gone, vehicles are gone, even PRONE is gone.

The PC Crysis 2 SHOULD have and NEEDED to be developed COMPLETELY SEPARATE from the consoles. The multiplatform engine concept was just terrible.

Not to mention the MASS of issues that everyone else is having.

Hopefully, they will remember where they came from, and that we don't deserve to get stabbed in the back. If we want to play a console game, we'll go pick up a PS3 or an Xbox 360 and play it there! I didn't build my computer to play a console game!

God help them if they do this multiplatform console porting crap with the final installment of the trilogy.
