What went so horribly wrong at Eurogamer Expo?

Post » Sat Aug 07, 2010 8:27 am

Before I begin, have a read at these articles describing the Crysis 2 experience at the Eurogamer Expo.

http://www.godisageek.com/2010/10/eurogamer-expo-2010-crysis-2-hands-on-impressions/
http://www.gamergeddon.com/2010/10/04/eurogamer-expo-2010-round-up-part-three/

There are more articles out there, of course. Now, common complaints seemed to be about loading times, lag and that on the consoles, the game struggled greatly and what's more, it didn't look particularly good either.

All this suggest the exact opposite of what we've been told so far!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not here to bash anybody and I'm obviously aware that the development is still not complete. I'm just wondering, as the title says, what went so horribly wrong? Was the game set up badly? Was there trouble with hardware? Was the game itself out of date? What? What went so wrong? As a fan of the title, I'm quite worried. I'm sure I'm not alone and I'm sure other people would like to know too.

I sure hope so... Still, I'm interested to know what went so wrong. Whether they're going to get everything fixed in 5 months is irrelevant, as they will. Obviously.

The articles exactly mirror my impressions of the multiplayer demo and the stuff ive seen so far.

5 Months are a short amount of time to make a working game out of an early beta. So i hope crytek isnt promising too much.
By the time everybody who played the Pc SP of Crysis 2 and Crysis 1 .. wasnt impressed by the successor at all.
The xbox 360 version is a joke in my honest opinion.
It only looks good when youre 4-5 meters away from the screen
If you get any closer you will see that even Halo 3 had better and sharper textures. The Ps3 version is nowhere to be seen and thats not a good sign. If even the relatively stable Xbox and Pc hardware brings the game to crash... the ps3 will probably not even be able to run anything that crytek could show to the public.

Everything points to a major letdown.
Because if Crysis 2 will not be what Crytek has promised so far...
They will first piss off every Pc-Gamer:
Because it was promised that consoles wouldnt limit the Pc version.
And that it would be a worthy successor to a really great game.. and not a half baked rip off.
And even the console gamers:
It will show that consoles nowadays are not capable of a real high end engine. Even when you limit the drawdistance by choosing a city as setting.

So was it worth it ? I mean the adventure to bring a real high end game to consoles? It rains criticism from every "neutral" magazine now.
Hey Crytek if you wanna make console games then do so.
But do not try to fool people by saying there will be a unbelieveable good game for every plattform. I still think without a major focus for each plattform a satisfying multiplattform game for everyone is NOT possible!
Because you always have to consider the weakest chain link in the line.

@ Corrupt Soul:

I really hope it was for the 360.
I dont want ghost textures appearing out of nowhere when im standing right in fornt of them.
Or an ghost filing cabinet that pops out of nowhere ( again 1 meter draw distance for objects is a joke)

from all ive heard i hope someone ruined the build... if not they probably wont be able to polish it in time and will not be the sequal people have been waiting for. They still havnt shown any ps3 gameplay so that even worries me even more since thats what im getting it for
