on windows 7 you will be able to play the game in DX11 (granted you own a DX11 graphics card), pretty much the way they handled vista/DX10. personally i skipped vista, and i'm just as sceptical about the DX11 hype so far. it is going to be the next standard, i'm sure. but i can't remember the real innovations like tesselation ever being mentioned in crysis 2 interviews or video footage.

not saying it will svck but they announced that it's only planned to improve performance. now if that performance gain is real (unlike 10 in crysis which often did worse than dx9 on identical settings) then i would gladly use the hypothetical edit-button in the future and delete the "ONLY". i'll probably be playing it on 11 anyway, unless a catastrophe should happen.
...where i live.

@ Inernetwiteknight.

The Information about DX11 on Win 7 only is wrong.
Dx11 is fully Vista compatible and not a Win7 exclusive.
And your scepsis about Dx11 is accounted.
The only thing it improves is the multithreading performance for multicore CPUs. The "only" optical improvement is Tessalation... and thats a feature
that makes your charackters look like the little man from michelin.
So its not even a useful feature right now.

LOL Michelin Man LOL thanks for that info, but thats cool! Crysis 2 is sixy as it is, but anything else to make it POP! cant hurt :D and I've noticed the added Tessalation does make a nice difference when compared to DX10. JUST GIVE ME A BETA I CANT WAIT ANYMORE!!!!!

POM isnt tesselation. POM is a shader used to create the illusion of extra geometry. there isnt actually any extra geometry. tessellation actually creates new geometry.

The CryEngine 3 supports DX11, I can only assume that Crysis 2 will have it also.

But dont rely on my 100%, remember that ass|u|me makes an ass out of you and me. ;)

And why would Crytek make an afford to include tessalation?
The only reason for that would be to justify Atis and Nvidias high end section of grfxcards. But we all know... the consoles are in the focus now.. because crytek wants to get in that market pretty hard.
Ohter games just put tessalation in ( Metro and Stalker cop) because they had a deal with nvidia.. but it makes the game fps slower and has almost no mentionable effect ( not like unigine heaven for example).
So even its included... it will blow up the charackters and nothing more.. theres just no time and really not enough power yet for a real good use of tessalation.

Tesselation is a rather ground-breaking technology and I expect Crytek to use it and other DX11 techniques to their full advantage.

DX11 in itself doesn't make it good, its how its used that makes the graphics look great with a still operational framerate. Just look at Cataclysm's DX11, and then consider what Crytek could do with it. Its not just the technology that makes graphics look good, its how the developer incorperates it into the game. In this regard, Crytek has excelled at that and I fully expect them to use DX11 techniques to their advantage, yet hopefully keep it optimized enough that the Nvidia GTX480 can still max Crysis 2 at 30fps.

With a GTX 480 you could max Crysis right now. Given that you're not completely out of your mind and running it on at 30 incher.

GTX 480 can max Crysis 2, seems possible, with almost 400++ cuda cores and dx11 tess. Wouldnt be theoretical though.

one thing which I have to say. I'm currently running cryengine3 at college as i'm a games developer though unfortuantly i haven't seen any dx10/11 files its probably just cause its still in development. then again even so running in the default dx9 still looks very pretty.
