Horde Mode

Post » Sun Sep 19, 2010 7:51 pm

What would you guys think of an interactive Horde Mode for Crysis and Crysis 2. Right now I'm trying to learn how to use the Editor and once i know enough I'm going to try designing a Horde Mode for both Games unless Crysis 2 has it in which case i will just make it for Crysis 1. So I just want to know what you would think about having it and what you might want in it, plus im thinking of adding cinematic cut scenes here and there to spruce things up a bit.

Also if any of you guys know a good guide about the Crysis Editor besides Cryteks manual that would be great.

so, what exactly would happen in a horde mode? a bunch of aliens storming you? or a bunch of koreans? Horde is hard to execute, GoW2 did a good job but I'm talking about like, nazi zombies (yes, that's an over-used example) how exactly would it work?

I was thinking of maybe having Cell, or the koreans (including Nano suit koreans) as one alternative and aliens as another. With the level set up, I was thinking maybe a progression system where if for instance checkpoint one is no longer able to hold a defence move on to checkpoint two or something like that. Then of course you would have a base where you will put up a final stand. This is obviously where most of the ammo, guns, etc. would be. Also i was thinking of having AI fight by your side to give it a more intense feeling rather than just fighting by yourself. Also the way the enemies would spawn would be something like in the level exodus where at the begining you would eliminate the first wave then the next wave would come in and so on. It would be like horde mode in gears or firefight in halo but with alot more stuff to work with. Then every now-and-then you would have aliens come from unexpected places. I have plenty of ideas i just have to figure out how to create the idea using Editor. All of this is going to be very hard to do but I'm willing to put my free time into this project, but i have got to learn every little piece inside that editor just to get this to work.

When I think of horde and Crysis, I think of aliens. Waves and Waves of aliens in an open environment with tanks, vtols, and 31 other buddies to help you out. :P

That might actually be good as a Large scale Horde Map where you have a bunch of people starting off on different ends of the map and eventually ending up all together in a main base for the battle of the century, I would have to put a Warning Message saying that you may need to lower your settings to get playable framerates, to compensate for that many aliens/koreans/cell and of course your buddies.

yeah dude, that'd make for a great battle, to have different firebases and everyone move to the main base after yours has been overrun, or if you had the choice to go help another base depending on how well they're doing. but only the last base should have any sort of vehicles, and a limited amount at that. But Pheonix, I'd love to keep in touch with you about this, I have to say you've got my attention for this (however I'm no map builder)

Well now that i have most of my ideas, im going to be getting them on paper, then before i start working extensively on this project i have got to upgrade my computer. My computer has trouble running Editor because of the lack of memory, and so it keeps crashing when i try to triangulate AI path or, when the memory usages gets to be too high for my computer to handle.

My specs: Systemboard - Gigabyte GA-MA785GM-US2H
CPU - AMD Athlon II X2 240 OC 3.3GHz
Memory - 2GB 800MHz DDR2
GPU - ATI 4850 512MB
Hard Drive - Western Digital SATA III, 7200RPM, 640GB, 64MB cache
