First Person Spectating

Post » Mon Aug 09, 2010 12:51 am

Crytek: Is there a possibility we will get to see first person spectating in Crysis 2? If not, why? I think it would be a great feature to add for the purposes of recording gameplay footage, learning techniques of other players, and distinguishing those who cheat from those who do not. I don't believe that you can't code the gameplay engine to allow first person spectating, so if that's the answer, I'd like details as to why that's not possible.

I am perectly happy with the 3rd person spectator the way it is now. Most games I play don't even have a spectate function, so I would just be happy that it exists. :)

Sounds pretty reasonable to me. It shouldn't be that hard, i meam, i've seen quite a few games with that option, like Counter Strike for one.

I have always loved Spectating. Ever since the Quake 1 days, spectating allowed others to watch how the game was played, the moves the player made and especially in competition and on a big screen...

Yes, please allow spectating. This can go along with the Crytec TV

no valid reason why not.... there IS first person spec mode settable in Far Cry 1.4 by server admins (A Crytek Game!!). The only draw back to having it on, is u have to cycle through twice as many "views" through players to get to the player u want... which is annoying when they keep dying in a busy server

True, First Person Spectating is valuable to detect cheaters.

Would love to see this feature. It's almost a necessity, not so much a feature. :) I hate that Battlefield doesn't have it.

yeah, FPS (first person spectating :D) would be cool, although there ofc should still be the option of going 3rd person, and MW2 and COD4 already has it

But a lot of games DO have it. I'm totally unhappy with the spectating in crysis 1/wars because it's basically useless. Games without 3rd person spectating are rare and usually very old, so I don't see why I should be happy with "just" 3rd person. Why put up with bad quality when I'm on the brink of giving up on the series all together.

That could easily be remedied with better code.

Have either of you even played crysis or cryiss wars? They both have only third person spectating. Every FPS game I've seen for years has 3rd person spectating. Only good ones have first.

I definitely would like to see this feature/necessity in crysis 2, i enjoy watching how others play and use tactics. A free roam camera would be nice too.

Would be a nice feature. Help us weed out the people using aimbots a bit better. In terms of engine capability, this was possible on the CE2 but would require some effort.

Crysis 2 is still in development, so anything is possible and it doesn't seem that difficult from a developer standpoint.

Spectating whether 1st person or 3rd is always a double edge sword. Yea it might help you find out who is cheating but it can always help out others to cheat by giving a way to spot and call out enemy positions to their friends. You may ask yourself why would someone want to do that instead of playing in the game themselves but as stupid and pathetic as that sounds it happens because cheaters are just that pathetic.

Yeah, it happens. For serious games, kick "un-official" spectators. Anyway, knowing where the enemy is isn't really going to help you that much unless you're already at a pretty high level of play.

Simple solution, give admin the option to enable/disable spectating, so in 'official' games you can disable it
on regular gaming i dont think this kind of cheating is gona affect much
