DLC for Crysis 2. What's your opinion?

Post » Sun Aug 08, 2010 11:19 pm

If Crytek would release Downloadable content for Cryisis 2 in the future:
- Would you buy it (for how much?) or do you think DLC should be free all the time?
- What do you think should DLC for Cryisis 2 have?
- or do you simply think it'd be useless to have DLC for Crysis 2 for some reason?

I'm curious about your answers because I'm not fond of paying for any kind of DLC at all (and so far I could resist the temptation with my games) but if Cryisis 2 will live up to my expectations It might just be a good time to change my mind about the topic and "embrace the future of gaming". What do you think?

As long as they don't think a $15 map pack is a good idea, I'm fine. Also all of the same day DLC needs to just stop, I will never buy DLC that comes out so soon for any game, or frequent DLC, like where you get a new map pack every week, its ridiculous. Being that it is of the FPS genre I think most DLC (if any) for it would be multiplayer map packs, as long as the maps are quality and the map pack has a good quantity I may pick them up. It really depends on how many people on my friends list are playing. I think it would be awesome if they were to throw in a different game type as DLC, or extra missions. Extra missions aren't something you see very often as DLC in most FPS games so something like that would be good.

Just looking around the forum you will notice a lot of people who would rather be fighting in the jungle again, not that it will ever happen but it would be awesome if they gave us DLC that not only took us back to the jungle for a single player mission, but also gave us jungle based maps for multiplayer, all within one DLC.

I think that DLC should always be free unless it includes new weapons/story/new gamemodes...

Making three maps and selling it as a $15 DLC is just a rip-off, plain and simple, especially when a couple years ago community mapping was the norm.

this

but in this case this is called an expansion pack, and this is what used to happen, u get some free updates and maybe a few maps but then they release an expansion pack that costs something but at least brings a lot of new stuff worth the price
now they just rip off everything, even in the things that were supposed to be free

i wouldnt mind paying for a dlc that would bring from CW a lot of the things that are asked here in forums, PS, vehicles, big maps and so on
but if the paid dlc is just a new map or two then i call it a robbery

I'm against it. Nowadays more and more games are being released unfinished and then the game becomes complete with DLC. And then the company even dear to charge you for that DLC.

Not so long ago games would be released completely and later some additional maps and so on would be released for free. Or in some cases even full new mp games would be released for free (For example Wolfenstein:ET) and those companies earned there money, so it’s defiantly not necessary for the money.

Al that DLC looks like svcking more money out of the customers. Where before the company's put hard in their games and make money because of that. It would be a shame if crytek would go that same way. Crysis 1 / warhead where still games with a hearth, let Crysis 2 be the same.

+1
but a extra co op game mod will be cool
like the onslaught mod in Battlefield:BC2 (but for all gamer)
i'll pay for stuff like this max 5$-10$
if there is a DLC make it for FREE
the game is expensive enough!

I think if they do release the Editor for this game you can forget about DLC, at least the payed one...

They just need tournament maps and promotional stuff when making a DLC, something to commemorate or kill over. :)

even if you get an editor most probably you wont be able to, for instances, create new weapons to use in the multiplayer, or even such a simple thing as re-skinning or replacing an existent model for a custom made one, like in CS, so they will always be able to make paid DLC
also if you could edit the skins of the game or release new content there would be no point on making a special camo skin for scar on the limited edition

Rockstar knows what dlc means. Especially with gta the ballad of gay tony and the newly released red dead redemption dlc.

I feel like DLC should be worth your buck, but not to shy away from it all together.

One one hand, Valve believes everything not on the disk should be free afterward, free updates for L4D 1 & 2 are still going, new campaigns, bug fixes, improvements to the game plus a new gamemode every week. That is content, and a company you can trust.

On the other hand, companies like Rockstar know how to create good DLC. New game modes, and fun campaigns which are worth your money to buy, and you look silly without them.

I can go either way, but if there is paid DLC, make it worthwhile, and not like Activison. $15 for new maps that are overpriced and not fun.

But there needs to be Co-op, or the ability to have a co-op mod. So keep mod support, the editor, and a free version of the Cryengine. ( But that is another story)

I would be intrigued; I'm sure they will- most modern games live off their DLC :) New levels ;D

Ooh yeah, you guys made me realise I made a mistake saying I have never bought any dlc since I actually bought GTA 4's but I don't count that as dlc cause they are kind of full fledged games by themselves with a good not very short new single player, new multiplayer modes besides the basic ones from the main game, and lots of other extras as well + I didn't actually download them but I bought them in the episodes of liberty city 2 disk pack.

Back to Crysis 2 how sure do you guys know that the game is going to include an editor? Has it been stated anywhere? I know Crysis 1 was/is famous for it's good modding community like for example unreal tournament 3 (UDK anyone?) but somehow I fear that they will not want to give away an editor this time simply for the sake of business in future DLCs.

One other thing I want to say about this:

If there will be DLC that really is worth it (Basically being just an expansion-pack or full new game) sell it then also on disc. No downloadable content only.

Also see the reaction of gytamas88

There are a lot of people that don’t pay for something they can’t hold in their hand.
