Crysis 2 - a Pc port

Post » Sat Oct 02, 2010 11:37 pm

Crysis 1 was made for Pc's. So should Crysis 2.
If the console hordes want it, they'll have to settle for what the Pc version has to offer.

...

There's no porting. Sandbox 3 has a feature called LiveCreate that allows all 3 versions to be developed simultaneously. Because of CryEngine 3's scalability, each version will take "full" advantage of the given hardware so your experience is dependent on your hardware as opposed to the least common denominator like it would be with a port.

Pfff perleffekt you know as good as we that Crysis 2 was scaled down in case of level size and design and enviorimental complexity, sandboxiness and controls to fit casual console gamers with thier poor hardware.

Its too early to make an educated guess about how Crysis 2 will look and play when its gone gold.
Maybe it would have looked better if its Pc only again. But like with C1 in 2007 almost no one could max it out.

A pc port to consoles would result in the best game the consoles will ever get.

As such, it's a multiplatform compromise, taking into account limitations of the consoles when designing the game. It's not really a port though, since the engine renders all 3 at once. I'm actually hoping more developers use cryengine 3, as it will at least allow me to play cross platform games that look like complete turd 95% of the time.

It's not a port and it will feel like Crysis, even on consoles. They decided to realease on multiplattform because of financial problems. Crysis wasn't buyed well against other games and they had to change their marketing idea to let their studio survive. If Crysis 2 was set only on PC, there wouldn't be any further Crysis games. No Crysis 3 and so on.

They can make a lot of money on PC Nameless :) just look at civilization, bad company 2 and starcraft II to name but three games this years which have oll sold exceptionally well on PC. Considering the PC install base is around 250m gamers, there's a huge market for a truly amazing game.

In the end crysis 1 was just too demanding, and you know what media is like: 'zomg you can't run crysis unless it's a beast of a machine!1!!' even though it can run on medium with a toaster and still look good. But also, apart from that, many players found the game itself not that interesting (although i think it's quite fun). It did sell ok though and shifted about 2-3 million copies or so since 2007. However, crysis is a far cry from half life episode 2 which came out that year. It looked far better, granted, but episode 2 just blows crysis out of the water.

They'll just make a bit more money for a little more effort with multiplatform is all.

@ Maximum Alien.. i know that.. but the hardware demands were a major point of criticism that time (and still are).

@ Comfy:
Its hard to compare Crysis sales to major Pc games like Starcraft, WOW and Bad Company 2 (Pc).
These games are so successful because you can play them even on mediocre and low end Pcs and of course these are really great games and fun to play.
But there were always games that appeared to be the elite in grfx and almost umplayable on current hardwaresettings. Ultima 9, Elder Scrolls Morrowind, Oblivion, Doom 3 etc.. For every game i had to buy new hardware in order to play them properly. But Crysis was at least 3 years ahead of its time..

You could run crysis quite well though on lower end hardware though :)

Also, crysis wasn't three years ahead of it's time, more like ten by the way things are going.

the next gen will be mediocre anyway with regards to the xbox. Microsoft will be using fusion II chips from AMD. Which will pack about 5 times more grunt than a 360, granted, but are in fact just the newest form of integrated graphics (albeit around 4 times faster than intel's sandy bridge)!

Not sure what sony will do :)
