Crysis 2 - Demo/Video manager - Revolutionary idea

Post » Wed Oct 06, 2010 3:11 am

Hi.
During the last month I played "Call of Duty : Black Ops".
I liked there one thing, what you can use in the Crysis 2.
"Demo manager".
It's a in-game program, where we can look our last games, montage it and render
video.
Hm. For me It's a second Half-Life-TV. It's meant..
We can watch all the map (spectating-option) and every player, who was playing
on the server..
Pause the time, accelerate it or slow, off hud, hide control panel, change view mode (FPP, TPP, Free) and what is most importantly - record every players. That would be great anti-cheat system. I think, there will be newer hacks, and not updated AT-S (like PunkBuster, VAC).
Secondly..
Some players like do Fragmovies, Gameplays, Montages from game.
But FRAPS or other program like it, slows down the game and charged to the computer. So "Demo-Manager" system would be great help for them.
Thirdly...
The demo-system works by sending data from the game server, where we can get the code after the movie and play it in manager. So we can look up any place, any player at any time, check the game chat and video.

Sorry for my English!^^

This is a really cool idea but it's a ton of work, you'd have to plan this at the very early stages of development to have any chance of including it for release.

Any hints if something like this WAS being worked on at the beginning?

I think Crytek can to make a command like "demo" or "startmovie / stopmovie",
which is recorded by our game.
Then do this so that the server wrote down everything that happens to them as data-file.
This would facilitate the work of modders for sure on "theatre mode - mod".

This is a really good idea, but it would be stealing ideas like Black Ops did. Bungie invented this system with Halo, and it should stay there.

Fraps? It's a good program, but ...
Crysis 2 will be a game that will need good equipment to smooth play.
Even well optimized Fraps can slow the game.
Thus, we need the internal recording system.

I have scoured the forums and google and see some people discussing the question to whether Crysis 2 will allow the ability to record matches to be uploaded to youtube.

Does anyone have any info regarding this question? Will we be able to playback previous played matches in some sort of in-game movie theater? Or will we all be forced to purchase capture cards and record that stuff on our own?

If Crytek intends to make their new iteration mainstream, a method of being able to record our matches is paramount to be able to show the masses what this game is about to people who are on the fence when deciding whether or not to purchase it upon release..

/merged - If you've seen the threads discussing it, why create another thread on the same topic? Keeping relevant discussion on the same topic in the same place makes things much easier to keep track of and accurately gauge interest/support on topics :)
