Well, Fallout games aren't exactly known for their horror.

So no, I don't think so.

And if there is I don't want it to be "jump out right in front of you" I want it to be more of a creepy feeling but also not "dead, mutilated bodies everywhere" which would be creepy but has been used too much. I'd want something that struck a chord and made me look behind myself afterwards.

There might be a few Dunwich moments, but all in all, Fallout as a whole has never really been about scare factor. Which since I cant get into cliche scares or the like, I wouldnt be saddened if there is no scare moment.

You should be in more fear roaming the wasteland at a low level since nothing scales to your level out there.

I don't think Fallout really has a "scary" element to be honest more like "surprise", the only time I've ever jumped is when I'm running through the metro tunnels and some feral hops out and hits me on my flanks that almost always scares the crap outta me. (Until of course I turn around and that feral gets a serious dosage of lead)

But other then a few jump moments when you get attacked out of nowhere I imagine it'll be about as scary as Fallout 3, which was not really all that scary at all. :tops:

I'd have to agree there. While I could see the Fallout premise having some potential for that. The series never really came off as particularly scary to me, and I don't think this particular installment will be very different. I'd reckon that if you didn't find Fallout 3 scary, New Vegas probably won't scare you either. At least, what I've seen so far doesn't lead me to think Obsidian has been trying to increase the fear factor much, which is something I can live with, as I'm sure even if they tried to make it scary, it wouldn't work as well as a game that focuses on horror, as if it's the main focus from the start, the designers can do a lot more to capture the fear factor.

You should be in more fear roaming the wasteland at a low level since nothing scales to your level out there.

I wouldn't say that would necessarily make it scary, it might give a sense of danger, but that doesn't necessarily mean a sense of fear. Take being shot at by multiple people in a game, for example, this gives a sense of danger because your character might be killed, but is it scary? In that sort of situation, what's on my mind is not fear, but rather how to stay alive. Now, a sense of danger is usually an important part of successfully inspiring fear, as you don't have much reason to be scared if you know that no one involved is in any real danger, but beyond that, it also needs the right atmosphere, and I don't really think this game will have that.

Fallout games arent suppose to be scary. FO3 only had that creepy vibe because of the way the art style was, like how everything seemed depressing and had a grey shade to it. As you've already seen in the vids of NV the color scheme is alot more vibrant, so no i don't think NV will be scary.

Things can get pretty scary when you're fighting swarms of enemies at a low level. I remember a moment in Fallout 3 when I stumbled into Grayditch looking for supplies and ended up desperately running from 10+ Fire Ants while emptying my Laser Pistol into the swarm. That was fun. There will also probably be areas like the Dunwich building where things get a little creepy. Fallout just isn't really a horror game. You take the scariest area in the game and bring a companion with you, chances are you won't be scared at all.

I agree, but will add:
The Dunwich Horror Building was spooky, thanks to the Feral Ghouls. Walking through hearing noises in the next room is also moody, in the underground, dark corridors. I'm guessing FNV will feature more of this.

I really hope there is a lot of scary stuff in NV. In FO3 it was cool to see these creepy things such as the dunwhich building. I was disappointed when I played the originals, and nothing in those games struck me as scary. So, I don't know about you guys but I'd really like to see some eerie things.

I wouldn't mind some creepy atmosphere Ina couple places. Not genuine horror, but seeing the despair of captured slaves, the non-chalant attitude of some cannibals.. It lends to a creepy vibe. Abandoned houses in the desert, slave encampments.. There are plenty of possibilities for some "scare factor".

As a mention: Anyone else, who has seen or read "The Road" think that a certain house with some secrets in the cellar would be an interesting find? Would be creepy. Could set it in the mountains, with the snow and trees. I think it would be a great little Easter egg, while adding some dark atmosphere.

the only thing thatd freak me out and not be cliche in my book is walking down a hallways then the lights go out, theres a room ahead with a barely cracked open door with light coming out of it, and piano music is coming from in there xD whatevers in there, my brain cant really think very well, maybe a nightkin who used to be a famous musician (whos mad now) and goes invisible once you open the door and see him for a split second :P

I just hope that they make the game much darker in some areas, and I'm talking pitch-black here. But we'd need a rusty, old, unreliable and flickering flashlight.
And, as others have stated, I'm hoping for more tense, creepy moments rather than full on horror. But horror would be nice too.

Fallout 3 only got me a little creeped out and that's because I was wandering through the Dunwhich building for my fist time at 3am with surround sound on and nobody home. When you hear moans and scratches coming from behind you it makes you a little jumpy, especially when your playing a melee character and have to get in close to kill things..

I would love to have a couple of haunted houses with ghosts doing random, spontaneous stuff. If you sleep in the house or building, your character will wake up to find himself staring at the wall inside the cellar at 3 in the morning. Or you'll randomly see scenes from the past like a ghost running with an axe at you but disappears before hitting you. Or even the sound of a small child crying but you can't locate where the sound is coming from. Perhaps add a little back story to it so you can find out what happened in the house.
