Deathclaws are scarier than Hell Knights from Doom 3

Post » Wed Dec 01, 2010 6:54 pm

Especially the Legendary Deathclaw :o

BTW not related to the topic, why there is no super mutant behemoth in the game?

I wanted to see Legendary Super Mutant Behemoth(lol) vs Legendary Deathclaw. :D :P

Doom 3 was only "scary" at the beginning, once you manned up and started just kicking doors in and spraying it wasn't so bad.

Speaking of Super Mutants, I'm a little disappointed in the complete lack of Super Mutants in the Mojave... seems like there are a lot more ghouls this time around. :meh:

There's no precedent for SMBs outside of the DC area. Presumably because of unique characteristics of the vault 187 FEV strain.

No Behemoths, because this is a different virus strain. The behemoths in DC grew to that size because they were really really old. That particular strain caused super mutants to grow with age.

I offered to clean out the Gravel Pit early on in my game - the guy just laughed at me (I was Level6 or something, thought I was pretty tough).
Then I offered again (Level15?) and he said okay.
That mission was pathetic - and it disturbed my sleep.
It was the extirpation of the Deathclaws. It was awful!
The big male, big female, and their little babies running around in circles waving their arms, on fire. Appalling.
The babies fell, then the male, leaving the female struggling for life as I kept hammering.
Eventually she stopped moving, and when it was over I felt terrible...
Ah well (only a game) but I found it disturbing,
Regards

I still miss them. Now we have Namby-Pamby Super Mutants that want peace and love. Get with the face-smashing, already. Sheesh.

Well that was... relevant.

I think the whole Jacobstown thing is nifty but I miss roaming the D.C. area and wasting whole squads of Super Mutants... so far I've only gotten my fill at Black Mountain and I return to that location whenever the spawns refresh to get my fix. :gun:

If FONV had an actual boss, it would be The Legendary Deatchlaw. That SOB took 8 rounds of AP .50BMG to the head, a hit of Slasher, booting Med-X, and a crippling from a Bottlecap Mine to go down. His mini-boss minions would be his Deatchclaw Mothers and Alpha Male Deathclaws. Screw that gravel pit btw. Had to kill every Deathclaw from atop a drag-bucket. Have to tell my companions to wait on the hill to not die when I snuff those devil beasts out on hardcoe. That or give Boone his own .50 BMG AMR...

It does have boss's. The Legendary insect's, and Nightstalker, and stuff like that i consider em boss's anyway.. Also you have to fight Caesors General in the game and hes a pain in the butt.

If you speak of Marcus Aurelius, Centurion of Phoenix, he died like a b@tch with ONE .308 AP critical sneak attack between the eyes from 150 yards. >:) The Bloody Mess perk also kicked in and he Hokuto Shinkened all over his balcony in Cottonwood Cove as well, truly a cathartic moment not to be forgotten... I also enjoyed adding his special Dog Tag Fists and Centurion armor to my collection.

I felt kinda bad picking off the baby death claws but seriously they're just gonna grow up and be mean SOBs. I stood on rocks and killed the death claws with a gauss rifle. Even at level 24 they would kill me in PA with 2-3 slashes. On my first play through I was so determined to get to the strip that when you are told to go east first, I didn't go east enough and wound up back at the deathclaws. But the game lets you walk on the mountain, possible cause of a glitch. Snuck on the monorail and I was there in less than 2 hours into the game. Missed out on a bunch though

I thought Legendary DC was gonna be hard, but I one shot him with the named-Gauss :(

I probably should put it on very hard.

In general this game screams for Very Hard.
Awesome quests/stories for sure, but the overall difficulty of enemies is just a tad too low.

Turn it up then. I think radscorpions and deathclaws are hard no matter what

Agreed. I was very surprised by the speed of the giant radscorpions on NV. One creature I would like to see in the game would be a giant mutated spider.

scorpions.... shoot their stinger and they die fast. Deathclaws..... shoot a leg then run circles around them.

The legendary monsters in the game (all of them) weren't all that great. I didn't even know they were legendary until after I sneak attacked them and killed them all in the various places they hang out in.

Even more of a disappointment is that they don't drop any special loot; not even so much as a "memento" to display in your home showing you defeated some super bad ass monster.

The Super Mutants from the original games are the ones in FONV. They were made using FEV located in Mariposa military base. The FEV used in Vault 87 is different.

V87: Mutants grow over time.
Mariposa: Mutants do not grow over time.

Doom 3 wasn't very scary.
I remember a lot of "peek-a-boo" enemies.
A deathclaw on the other hand, when I see that I actually open my eyes wide open, drop my jaw and go "Ooooh [censored]..." and is actually getting more scared the close it gets.
But yeah Doom 3 managed to shock me a few times at the beginning but then it just got boring.
Like, one of those imps pop out and screams at me and I just go "yawn..."
Fallout games on the other hand always manage to scare the bejeezus out of me whenever a tough enemy attacks me.
