I need honest and non-trolling help with Crysis 1 graphics

Post » Thu Sep 23, 2010 1:10 pm

Ok please read the whole thing to make sure what i'm asking here. (i'll try to be fast so you don't get distracted by shiny objects)

I have never played Crysis 1... (i know i'm sorry)
Crysis 2 came out and i bought it.
Now.
I've seen tons of threads saying Crysis 1 graphics are FAR superior to Crysis 2 when you use the proper mods.
SO.
I went out and bought Crysis 1 + Warhead because I wanted to see this for myself.

Can anyone give me like, a list of mods, texture packs, etc. that you would recommend?
I'll look for downloads myself if you're too lazy. I'm just very curious.

I think i'll be able to run whatever mod/pack you throw at me.
My PC specs are as followed:
AMD x6 T1100 (oc3.7Ghz)
ATI Sapphire HD6970 2Gb
8Gb Dual channel RAM 1600Mhz

Thanks in advance, I'll give you my unbiased opinion once I see it for myself.

EDIT:
Please note that I'm currently only interested in graphical updates, not complete Crysis overhaul mods that are just fun to play

Lifesis mod. even without the mod Crysis 1 looks better than 2. the Textures alone in crysis 1 are 2x that of crysis 2.

You don't need any mod to see the better graphics. Just play it on the maximum detail your computer let you and you'll see it.
I can see the difference and I can play only on DX9 medium.

The first crysis is important to the story line IMO, same with warhead, teaches you about how prophet, pysco and the rest of the team discovered the aliens. (can't remember player characters name from the first game, someone help me out here)
Also, it's a lot more fun than crysis 2 having more suit modules: strength, armor, speed, stealth and visor.

But back on topic, crymod.com is a good place for lots of mods

Yeah, Crymod.com is the place to go to look for good mods. But I agree, Vanilla Crysis is still good on its own.

Night and Day.

I played Crysis 1 fully maxed at 19 x12, V-sync on, 4 AA, DX 10 and some insane texture pack ( can't remember name ) that makes the game look almost photo realistic in places. It still gives my i7 and 5970s a work out to this day.

Crysis 2 looks like Fear 2 and doesn't even make my rig sweat, one of the 5970s just idles ( 19x12, V-sync on, Extreme..and mods )

Crysis 1 looks so much better...( the faces, models and animations are better in Crysis 2 though )

I recommend Xzero's shader mod:

Also using Rygels texture mod and the foliage texture mod will make the game look that much better.

Go find Silent High Resolution Foliage. Some people will recommend you to use Rygel's High Res Textures, but if you do that:

VERY IMPORTANT!

If you happen to play Crysis 1 with both Silent's HD Foliage and Rygel's HD textures, you absolutely need to edit Rygel's to get rid of certain files. You see, Rygel also improved upon the foliahe, only Silent is better. Therefore open the .pak files in winrar or similar and simply delete any duplicate files.

Other than that, download one of those "ULTRATOTHEMAXOFsixUALDOOM!!!!" autoexec.cfg files, get to know it and adjust ;)
