It is every citizen's final duty to go into the tanks and become one with all the people.

Actually, thinking about it and taking some of the 50s mindstate, it's all probably taken care of by technology.

Air is probably processed through machines to turn CO2 into O2, the access carbon than used to aid in food production.

Water is run through the water chip (FO1 reference).

Bodies are recycled, probably heated to the point that they seem to be incinerated so that all the moisture is baked out of them, then everything that's left is processed and turned into raw materials to be used in other stuff.

In that situation, what would people call it? probably incinerated, or cremated, they almost definately wouldn't just say "yeah, i'm recycling dad". And the overseer would probably foster a belief that they are actually being creamated.

Incineration seems to be the obvious choice, but I think it would be hysterical if there were some sort of tube that bodies were launched out of like a giant potato gun.

lol, would make a great random encounter to come across a pile of bodies all in 101 jumpsuits, one with a note hinting at how they got there. A bit reminiscent of FO2 humor.

You just made this old Trek fan giggle most inappropriately. Especially since I happen to be listening to a song from that soundtrack right at this moment.

While no one's looking they shove the dead bodies into the walls of the caves at the entrance.

Yeah, i'm gonna have to go with Soylent Green. There's no way there'd be enough food in the vaults to last 200-odd years.

Which is why they have food replication machines and hydroponics ;)

My guess would be cremation, though something like the funeral stills (I think that's what they were called) in Dune would also be cool. There's no indication that water is so scarce in vaults though, so yeah cremation seems the obvious choice.

Cremation, useing hydrogen gas taken by seperating the water molecules. This would be your purified air and a constant fuel source. The water is taken from the ground and run through a series of electrified charcol filters.
