Dynamic Day - Night Cycles in SP and MP?

Post » Sun Jun 26, 2011 5:38 pm

Well I don't really care about it being in SP, but it would be really cool in multiplayer.

Imagine playing on Skyline at night or on Lighthouse at noon. Or Sanctuary at sunset.

From what I've heard the feature was actually there in the leaked beta and removed later on.

Seeing that it's a basic feature of CryEngine I can't see it being too hard.

And it would be very cool and would add a whole new level of dynamic gameplay into the multiplayer for this game.

I know this feature can't be added into the console version, sicne Global Illumination did not make it into that version of the game, but maybe a PC exclusive treat? :)

Wait... I can understand why Global Illumination isn't in the consoles, as it's very resource intensive, but I don't think Global Illumination powers the day-night cycle.

Global Illumination is the approximation of where scattered light in a scene should be.

The image on the left just calculates Direct Illumination, whereas on the right, Global Illumination is applied to simulate the bounced light from the sand onto the figure's body. This adds a layer of ambiance to the scene that cannot be achieved by Direct Illumination alone.

A dynamic Day-Night cycle depends on a multitude of things, but I don't think the lack Global Illumination halts that process. FarCry 2 has a Day-Night Cycle, and I don't think it has GI. As long as they didn't cut out anything else, the consoles probably could do it too. :D It would be sweet kicking ass on skyline in the dark of night. Hopefully someone turns on the lights. =P

But in order for the Day Night cycles to look good, you need global illumination.

Haha, true. Now that I think about it, FC2's night time looked like ass.

But Crysis 2 has deferred rendering, so adding proper lights to make the Night look good won't be a problem.

hell yeah, day night cicle would be awsome :D. It would really add lots more replayability to MP... because its whole new game when you're playing at night on skyline. Mostly dark, harder to detect stealth and such^^ would be damn awsome.

I seriously have no idea why TOD was ever taken out. I mean it was in Crysis, why not Crysis 2? Anyway however, I think a lot of other things need to be changed beforehand that I feel are way more important matters. Physics, Draw Distance, textures, need to be attended to.

Though this would be sick as well.....

Well who's ass are you referring to?

Katy Perry's ass or O-MY-FAT-ASS?

That's not a fair question.
I'd be considered a... (well, you know) if I chose either one of those.
