I don't know if it's from a mod or not, the only weapon mod on my list is Adonnays Elven Weapons. The crosbow shows up as that big yellow splat.

Any ideas?

Well since it's not there, it's in a weapon mod you don't have. I'd suspect someone built a quest mod that included the form for a crossbow without remembering to copy the mesh and texture from the weapon mod they were using.

They aren't on a quest, just the occasional random bandit carries them. The same thing happened with a suit of armor from the alternative light armor mod but I managed to fix that by moving it lower down the list.

After determining what file and mod you need to address, check your install to make sure you didn't miss anything.
