I dislike playing on the easiest difficulty now.

I used to, and it made Mehrunes Dagon, Umaril, and Jyggalag seem like wimps. And they are at that point.

Easiest difficulty? As in difficulty slider all the way left? Well, everything will be wimps with such a setting, after all. 1/6th damage from enemies and 6 times damage for you.

I can't imagine wanting to put the slider at either extreme. It makes no more sense for the player character to be the strongest thing on Nirn, or the weakest.

My slider stays in the range of 40%-60% depending on the character, and is adjusted to improve my immersion. I can't imagine wanting to beat on a rat for fifteen minutes before it dies, but I shouldn't be able to one-hit kill a guy in armor with a dull dagger, either. :) I find that I need to adjust it slightly within that approximate range, depending on the character.

I tend to balance my character via skills, attributes and equipment - all geared around the 50% default difficulty setting. That's probably because I would tend to forget about the difficulty slider.

I set it at 75% towards hard setting, for me it makes it more realistic. Sure my character is a little better than most of the NPC's in game, but I want to feel threatened, things shouldnt be easy to kill.

Same here. For my redguard fighter character it's closer to 60% difficulty, I like to challenge him, but for my tiny female khajiit who uses hand to hand only, no weapons, it's more like 40%. She also has to summon a skeleton if she faces more than two enemies at a time.

I think it all depends on how much your character can cope with, depending on what skills they have.

This is more or less my philosophy too, though should at some point one of my avatars find ALL encounters either unplayably hard or boringly easy I'd consider adjusting the slider to find a better mix of challenge and fun.

My current (only) avatar came out pretty well in this regard. At level 42 (hit just yesterday after ages spent at 41), with the slider at 50%, most vanilla fights are a cakewalk so long as he avoids doing something stupid. That said, being on PC he does encounter mod-added foes who can be a real challenge. We just spiced up his game-world a bit by adding a mod which transforms enemy bowmen from mild annoyances to objects of dread. They can't be taken for granted any more! They must now be approached with respect and a bit of cunning if one hopes to come out on top relatively unscathed.

Same here. I never remember the difficulty slider when I'm in game. So it's always at 50%.

The difficulty system in OB is a bit stupid, IMO.

Easy is fine the way it is, I suppose.
Normal is fine at lower levels, but at higher levels the scaling is just horrible.
Hard mode has the right idea for enemies, but the wrong idea for the player. IMO, on hard, everything should be a lot more deadly (including the player) so that fights aren't just the same as vanilla but with a lot more health potions :P

I usually always play on Normal and it's a cakewalk. I could do Hard but that would be a grind and I'm not doing Efficient Leveling again just to stay alive.

Always played default but grew tired of hacking and hacking and hacking the same goblin warlord before it bit the dust. They′re supposed to be tough I get it, but they′re practically naked so an arrow or sword should pierce through them like a warm daedric dagger through hot butter!

That said, I now have it between default and the extreme left and find it more tolerable

I find playing on normal (50%) to be a very good balance. Not too hard but I still need a good strategy when I am fighting.

Play 100% difficulty instead.

One shotting marauders with a dagger gets boring after a while.

I never touch the slider on any of my main characters (Maia the Silver Knight, Olaf the Ninja, and Raven the Wizard).

I've made characters just to play around with Umbra's gear at level 1 and used the slider, but I always end up feeling so... hollow... about it. Those characters end up in the ultimate oblivion: the un-world of "hey, I've been delet-"

50% seems just right for me. If your build is good and your Oblivion skills are good it's easy enough most of the time, with some nice surprises (challenges) here and there.

I tend to stick with 50% all the time though I really do wish it were possible to have it on like 75% but still do the same amount of dmg to enemies
