The City of Windhelm

A look back on probably the most historic city in Skyrim...
-I wanted to make this as an informational thread for the community. I know the Imperial Library has a more detailed record and account of Skyrim History-

Windhelm; originally Saarthal, home to the first human settlement on Tamriel, was founded by Ysgramor and his family during the great civil war on Atmora, the original homeland of the Nords. The city flourished and grew strong in the eyes of the Nords but it was the Falmer who began to see the new human race as an imminent threat. The Falmer; snow elves, sacked, burned, and massacred the unsuspecting nords which is now known as the Night of Tears.

When Ysgramor, two of his sons, and the legendary 500 returned to Skyrim, they swept clean the Falmer and rebuilt Saarthal. The town, led by Ysgramor himself, would be a stepping stone in the first foundations of the Empire. The city today is still dominated by the Ysgramor Dynasty Palace. Dark futures would await Windhelm as the city was sacked twice, once during the War of Succession and the second by the invading Akaviri Armies.

It is the largest city in the Hold of Eastmarch and home to Imperial Troops guarding the Dunmeth Pass into Morrowind. I for one am excited to explore this city and immerse myself in the Nordic Culture that gave birth to the Skyrim we know today.

Whenever I see the name Ysgramor I get all dyslexic and misread it as something like Yorgismor.

I hope it DOES look like a town of a few thousand people, not a village of 50 people.

Its possibly not going to look like a town of a few thousand people, imaging how much work and how many NPC's it would take, and on the same time we tell them we don't want the npc's to have the same voice actors.
I'm just saying its not that likely to happen

Not every NPC needs to have a dialogue tree. Look at some of the NPC's in Fallout 3 for example.

Sounds like Windhelm would be a nice place to live for my Imperial character.

This sounds like the coolest city ever, I hope Bethesda does it justice. I want to feel like I'm in a large city.

You are right, I hope they take this from FO3 and put it in Skyrim.

how much work? I dont see why. They should create the huge cities procedurally, than handcraft a few parts, twitch here and there, etc.
