Why Do You Play The Character That You Do?

Post » Fri Sep 30, 2011 11:20 am

-There are people who create a character that is based off of their own physical appearance and personality.

-There are people who create a character they admire/enjoy from some form of media (book/movie/game)

-There are people who create a character simply because they're completely different than what they've known (both in other games, as well as real life)

-There are people who create a character that gives them the ability to do all the things their heart truly desires (both devious and heroic)

So look inside yourself and truly ask: Why do you play the character that you play?

As For Myself:

-My Nord is a reflection of myself, both physical appearance and philosophy/morality. Rather- it's the representation of what's in my heart. Yes, there are physical similarities, but in a more perfect form.

-My Dunmer is based off of "Drizzt Do'Urden," I admire his finesse, his morality and views on the life that surrounds him and relate with his love of nature.

I want to win with the least possible chance of harm coming to myself. So... stealth based archer/mage hybrid. Death from the shadows a half-mile away, loot pinata!

Q: What
A: Everything

Quote from above ^^

I based a Dunmer in Oblivion off of this same character. He might have to make a return in Skyrim, since I can finally dual wield with him.

My character is a frickin lizard. I don't know how to psychologically explain that. Maybe I'll bring it up in my psychology class (not really).

I have always leaned towards characters who rely on stealth and subterfuge. Elder Scrolls seems to always have an avenue for these types, so I always reserve at least one stealthy character for each game.

There is just something about sneaky playstyles that makes the game even more rewarding. Something romantic in a way.

As far as looks and background, characters who are older and wiser with a rich history intrigue me more. Instead of having years of potential ahead of them, they know their limits and have a pretty good grasp on who they are. Decisions are easier to make because you know how they will act in any given situation.

Don't like the human race? Don't like who you are (inner/outer)?
You find life too plain?

I usually play a character that is much nicer than I am in real life, though this time through I will be playing a very bad character.
