Character Hand Generation

Post » Thu Oct 06, 2011 7:16 am

A thought just occurred to me... We know that character generation is said to be much improved, but for us first person players, much of the game is spent NOT looking at your character. It has been confirmed that we will no longer be able to see our character in the menu either, which disappoints me for sure. I was looking at the screen with the heal, wolves, mace and noticed the great detail (scars, veins) on the players arms and hands. I think it would be cool if there was a way we could also customize our hands and arms as these really get a lot of show time in first person.

General things like hand size, thickness could be altered, but it would be sweet to add thicker (or thinner) veins, scars, tattoos or even missing digits.

This isn't an anti character gen topic, it's always been fun to spend an hour making my hero, but it seems like it's more for nothing this time around. I want grizzly, weathered hands!

Thoughts.

i hope you can add scars to more than just your face
im sure scars on hands would look good and seem natural in such a rugged environment

Hand generation? Really? It just sounds like a waste of time for Bethesda, and you can still look at your character by going into third person perspective and rotating the camera.

I can't see where is the waste of time in being able to distribute scars and tatoos in your whole body instead of just in your face.

The OP mentions the unability to see your character in the menu this time as a reason to make avaliable more custimization of what thinks a 1st person player will see (though some finishers and riding a horse will force 3rd person).

this is a bit silly. Just put yourself in 3rd person to view your character then go back to 1st person. Why is that such a sin?

Although i highly doubt it would happen but showing how distinct your character is by the condition of their hands might have been a nice but irrelevantly small idea. Like for more hardened warriors to have more rough hands or cuts and heavy magicka users to have some sort of distinct glow or markings on their hands.

i kind of like this idea. But the problem is that in character creator when you pick your skin tone, skin texture, body thickness your hands become based off that.

Interesting idea, but I too doubt that hand generation will be directly done. If you can so finely tune your hands, why not your feet? Or stomach? Or scapula? Character generation has to have its limits, otherwise it becomes unwieldy.

And I also think that it svcks that you can't see your character in the pause menu. Oh well...

Exactly, like it's not much different than seeing your paperdoll in a menu. These 1P users and their immersion breaking crap  Here's an idea, how about die often? :dead:
