Just wanted clarification on some aspects regarding spells and general magic-usage. I am a level 16 pure mage.
First, I think some spell-schools don't just raise with practice, like in Oblivion and Morrowind. I believe that your summon must do some damage to an enemy or be active in some way for the point-bar to go up. I mean if I just keep casting "Summon flame atronach" the skill does not seem to level. Is this correct? I believe restoration is similar, in that simply casting does not level it but it must actually restore your health.
Clairvoyance seems useless; the description states "Shows the way to the current objective" yet casting it does not seem to produce any results. Also, the way to the current objective is shown by arrows and markers, so what is the spell for? Perhaps the markers and arrows only appear once it is cast and it remains an active effect?
Lastly, spells are much harder to come by but this is totally understandable since this isn't Morrowind or High-Rock. If Imperials tolerated magic, despite their underlying suspicions, Nords completely despise it. I have not yet found useful Illusion spells (charms, that about it) and it seems most of the good ones should be available from the Court Wizards. No spoilers on this though.
