Why do i die.

Post » Sat Sep 26, 2009 6:40 am

This is the second time this has happened to me, ill be exploring a dungeon and then in certain little hallways, something just kills me, in one hit all the time. I dont see a ghost or anything, it just kills me. Like in one place, i either have to levitate or climb a big wall to get to a small alcove with an adjacent room(which i have seen while falling to the ground dying, and its full of loot) but i die when i get into the alcove.
Any ideas?

There are quest people to kill in that alcove sometimes too, the ground in there just kills you. Levitation is the trick, yet somehow the monsters in that room don't seem to need it. I don't remember other hallways having that effect, just certain rooms here and there.

Those rooms are some sorts of traps. You can only survive them with healing spells and lots of health.

It's a trap that's activated when you walk over it. It's supposed to go off as you walk through, but if your game clock is accelerated or otherwise funky, it can go off a whole ton of times all at once. If it does the only way to get past it is to levitate (no touch floor, no trap).

As Admiral Ackbar would say, "it's a trap!"

A lot of traps in the game are simply activated as you walk over them. Indeed, with faster CPU clocks, this can cause a glitch where it'll hit you repeatedly, and hence these will almost invariably do enough damage to kill you. These traps are often accompanied by a noise, so you'll know you've hit them. Usually, they're placed in similar locations; if you spot a place in a room you remember having a trap, if you spot an identical room in another dungeon, there's a good chance it also has the same trap in the same place.

In my estimation, this is not a glitch. It's supposed to hit you fast and hard, like a vampire ancient. If you have enough HP, you can survive it. But you'd need a loooooooot of HP.

I always considered these kill spots to be cursed ground where some sort of death curse was placed by a vampire ancient or some other powerful magic user. I didnt know you could survive them.

certain traps drain all of your magicka, and a few nearly kill you. i swear there's one that gives a random disease too.

there's no way of detecting the traps except to remember the darn hallway.
