Hi i kinda have hundreds of gems like rubys etc, are they needed or generally just vendor trash? just trying to make some room, i also tried to smith my armour to make it "superior" .. but it says i lack the perk to smith enchanted items, what perk do i need?
and can anybody explain the whole disenchant thing? how do i remove a enchant from something to put on my gear? ...

Gems have no value other then money. You can't disenchant, and you need the perk in the center of the smithing constellation, right north of the starting point, which requires level 60.

You can use the gems to make jewelry...the types of gems and metals varies the prices you can sell them at. Its the armorer perk just above the first star you have to unlock it...go to the enchanting table and it will give you the option...pretty obvious after that

Don't deceive him, all the gems in the game can be used to make rings and necklaces whether you have any perks or not, all the jewelery options are available to you at the forge.

That's what happens when you disenchant at the table...then when you go to enchant it will show you a list of enchantments you aquired
