One thing I miss from old-school rpg'

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 12:28 pm

Specifically the turn-based ones: numbers on the attack. It's always cool to see just how powerful the attack is, what it was blocked for, etc. I know the numbers are there behind the scenes but it would be cool to see.

For example, snow trolls were scary. Spent a long time trying to kill one early on and was overwhelmed by its badassery. Two hits and I'm dead and it tanks my puny human attacks.any levels later and I'm not exactly tanking him but am much more durable and my bow can take him down, let alone my legendary glass greatsword of smiting.

Probably not too difficult to patch in. When I see a bandit one-shot with my arrow and go flying back, I'd love to see the damage floating above him.

I guess you have to like that kind of thing, personally it's enough for me to watch their health go down and die!
I never took note of the numbers in dragon age, just kept attacking until I slaughtered all that attacked.

Floating numbers is hardly "old school". Old schoolers will remember fondly statements like "You hit the bandit for 4 point(s) of damage. He/she/it died."

Wouldn't that kill the realism a bit? *strike with sword*, -25HP. It would bug me. Though I understand how it could appeal to some players.

I liked it in The Witcher, but that is a different type of game. Combat is lockon and such.
But not in TES.

Lol, I remember those games.

They give you a black screen with texts on it. Stuff written on the screen like "You've entered ", "Type to go there", type to attack, do various things etc.

And then it got upgraded to having a picture along with texts which just killed your imagination.
