Why can't telekinesis as strong as Jedi force?

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 9:27 pm

I do not need it to deal enormous amount of damage or lift a mammoth, but why can't I use it to deal reasonable damage( e.g. throw an object which has 20 weight will deal 20 damage ) or lift human size target?

I disagree that the base telekinesis spell should be able to manipulate monsters or NPCs for balance reasons: being able to knock people over is a very powerful effect. I do, however, feel that there should be a high-level alteration spell which acts as a superior version of telekinesis, one that CAN lift and toss people, as well as larger objects.

I'll note that objects your throw with your telekinesis spell will hurt people, just not very much. IMO, the amount of damage dealt by stuff you throw is appropriate for the level of the spell and its manacost.

I agree, we should have had Bioshock level telekinesis as an Expert level spell and keep minor telekinesis as it is. Mods will fix this eventually, as they did for Oblivion telekinesis. Midas Magic has a force push spell that is essentially Fus in spell form, so it's conceivable that more force spells will be included in that mod, possibly psychokinesis as well.

I thought this as well, but it really doesn't do enough damage to be useful in combat. Doesn't matter what you throw either, swords and cups do the same amount of damage, a miniscule amount. You can piss people off with it, but that's the extent of it's combat use, it only does a sliver of damage even to non-combatant villagers.

The issue with such a high level spell is npc mages can have it and use it on you to hold you in place paralyzed while the rest gank you.

No, I do not want simply push back. I want something more fun.

For example I telekinesis a knife and throw it to target, target will be damage by the knife according to either weapon damage or item weight. Hence I get throwing knife :)

Or you take a Nazi Germany coin and 'Magneto' it through your arch-enemy's face.

I would love a TK spell that's able to do damage. I'm a huge fan of TK. I don't know why, exactly, but it's always fascinated me. I've bought games specifically because they had TK in them, if that says anything about how much I love the ability.

I would also love if you could pick up enemies and toss them around. It would be so hilariously awesome. Overpowered? Yes. Even if there was to be a hugely high Cost per Second, the fact Enchantment can be used to make spells cost zero would mean it could potentially be the most overpowered spell in the game. But I can definitely say I was disappointed to find out that throwing things at enemies barely did any damage- yet it does just enough to get you a bounty if you accidentally hit someone in a town while using it...
It would also be nice to be able to pick up dead bodies with it.

I'm not a modder, nor have I ever attempted to be a modder, but I don't imagine it would be particularly hard to mod the spell to allow this. Easier than Oblivion, anyway. The physics work in its favor. And I know there's a sort of magical lifting animation that could be used for it, as seen when Harmaeus Mora levitated Septimus Sigma in that one quest. So if the spell was set to use that animation... Blahblahblah it's probably not that easy, so I'm going to stop talking about things I know nothing about.

Basically this is me saying I agree with this thread. Only in a tl;dr manner.

The only use I've found for the spell is as a substitute for Throw Voice or an arrow -- that is, to distract enemies with a noise.

I do remember one other use for telekinesis that I saw on one of the "Did you know" threads here. One person claimed that you can pick up bear traps like any other item by holding activate on it. You could use telekinesis on an open bear trap and toss it at a bandit so it will go off on him.

I haven't tried it myself yet, only remembered it just now, but at least Icould get some use out of that spell, even if I'll need a bear trap for it. I guess you could set off wire traps as well, but you could do that by just dropping something or using arrows anyways.
