Unabashed love-in for Black Reach

Post » Fri Dec 16, 2011 12:21 pm

I’ve been playing computer games for a while now.

As a kid I can remember playing Colossal Cave ADVENTURE on the mainframe at my old mans work.

By ’87 I’d taught myself GWBasic from code listings in a book of Scary Computer Games and have been collecting, exploring and frag’ing ever since.

In almost 25 years of gaming few moments have left me as gob smacked as exploring the depths of Black Reach last night.
It is quite possibly the single most beautiful piece of game design I’ve ever seen.

And I don’t think I’ve explored half of it.

Whoever was responsible for it, take a bow because Black Reach is the new gold standard.

Mazel tov!

Everyone has a love for blackreach, I really think it's really scary and freaky and it's one of the last places I would like to be. Just my opinion,

Cheers

I did like black reach with all the glowing "dust" in the air. UNTIL i went in a building and came back out, the nice glowing "dust" had turned to SNOW. Now thats all it does in there no matter how many times i go back to the surface and re-enter it is always snowing.

If you haven't been there yet, you wont be disappointed and yeah it's absolutely awesome. I find myself returning there just for the sightseeing, can't say I've ever done that before in a game.

Just spent more time exploring through it.

Damm it's big.
Is it scaled the same as the overland map?
Seems a bit off.

It is the most beautiful place in Skyrim. I want to build a castle down there!

It is worth the hype. Never been so awestruck by anything in a game. If you aren't a svcker for beautiful environments, then maybe you won't like care though.

Definitely one of the best locations in the game. But there are plenty of really well designed dungeons in the game, and dungeons are, in my opinion, one of the strongest points to Skyrim.
