im doing the dawnstar mission and i finish it she talks to me 500 feet in to the sky then just drops me to my death???

That is a bug I have heard about before.

Reload a previous save, from before you arrived at her shrine, that may help.
Maybe you can use the become ethereal shout?

If you're on PC, type tgm on the console just before you land, and then again afterwards. That should prevent you from dying.
