Hello guys,

I am was improving my Nightingale armor last night and noticed that the best I could do was upgrade it to 'Flawless' as opposed to something higher. I have a natural 100 smithing skill and was wearing a ring that adds 22% to smithing. I have every perk in the smithing skill tree. Any ideas why I can't go beyond flawless? When I upgraded my Daedric weapons, I got them to 'Legendary' status. I suspect it's because the Nightingale armor is magical, but I don't know. The wiki din't help.

You can't smith it beyond flawless easily. It's just like that I'm afraid. Make more +%smithing gear, and chug a load of +% Smithing potions then give it another shot. If you can't upgrade it past X, load and get more gear!

Repeat until Legendary.

Ideally, you'll want to wear every piece of +%smithing item that you can when upgrading things.

You need to use enchantments to raise your smithing pass 100. I coulddn't improve a daedric artifact past flawless, untill I used potions and enchantments. Now its legendary.

Is it then easier to upgrade weapons to legendary? I didn't have a problem with that... just the armor. I don't understand why I can have legendary daedric weapons but only flawless armor. :/

You can have Legendary Deadric wepaons because you have the Deadric weapons and armour perk. The specific perks for each material add a hidden +Smithing to the material in question. Certain items do not fall under any of the material categories, such as the Nightingale Armour.
