So I've been playing my third character so far( after over 150 hours or so from my other two) and he is focused on two-handed weapons and heavy armor. That means heavy damage and strong protection.
He is using a steel battle-axe and has orcish armor currently with an armor rating of about 80. When I'm fighting a character armed with a weak iron sword and fur armor, and watch him slice me away and receive little amounts of damage from my huge and sharp battle axe...
That creates an annoying problem. "So turn the difficulty down." Nope. I still want a challenge, but buffing up normally weak opponents and making them laugh at your attacks isn't what expert level(and harder) should be. So here out my idea.
The difficulty setting could be more fleshed out.
First off, take a look at your weapons. At the normal adept level, my battle axe shreds opponents and I receive not too much damage as I would like to declare an equal challenge.
At expert however, my battle axe takes around 15-20 swings to weaken an enemy(NOT KILL). It's another 5 or so swings to finish him, and groups of 3 or more if his friends becomes more of an annoying part of the game than a challenge. Yet they could be armed with similar weapons or even lower class weapons and f*** you up...
So we need a damage intake and outtake slider. This way you can set the amount of power your weapon deals to an enemy( NOT OVERPOWERED/ Overpowering this option would eliminate the use of some perks) and what damage they can do too you, creating a dynamic sense of challenge to your preferences. So, for example, my battle axe can kill an enemy in five or so hits, yet they also can kill me in that many hits, more or less depending on their weapons, perks, etc. Same goes to you.
Armor could be applied to. How much damage do you feel your armor should take? So, light armor on an enemy would make your battle axe easily pierce trough him, yet his heavy armor would require more swings and damage to deal. Once again, te same would applie to you.
Of course, this is my opinion, and this would require MUCH fine-tuning and testing to actually become a possible feature in game( For a more realistic/ equal gameplay and combat experience. If you would just want to make your weapons deal massive damage and your enemies try to kill you with their nails, play on novice.).
So tell me your thoughts. Hell, maybe even a slider for what types of enemies deal what amount of damage could be somehow balanced and included.
Like I said, these options would require fine-tuning, but I think they could somehow work eventually and greatly change your skyrim experience.
