Dragon Language On Whiterun Houses!?

Post » Mon Dec 19, 2011 5:27 pm

I was looking closely at a Dragon sculpture decoration (which are attactched to arch-ways, or doors in Whiterun) and i noticed some Dragon runes.. so i tried to do some translating but most of the markings dont actually look like any letters, so its safe to assume these are just scratched or decoration on the sculptures.. but i just though they looked a little conspicuous to be simple scratches and wounds in the sculpture, i know its not entirely important but can anyone make out a word from the markings?

Well there's a lot of dragon lore relating to Dragonsreach, so there could be a connection.

I noticed them a bit all over the place to be honest. Not just in Whiterun.

considering the first language used by the nords was the dragon language, id imagine its a big part of whatever language they derived from it.

it could be that those runes are the "english" to the draconic "latin"

Is is the Shadowmarks?
Search for it at UESP and read it.
There is also an in-game book, in the Ragged Flagon.

They're symbols for the Thieves guild, there's a book about them in their HQ on a table.

Yeah those are the marks. Good, now I know what they actually mean. I thought they had some kind of meaning but never figured out what :D

Yeah, I thought the same before I found out. It is quite useful actually, for finding escape routes and such.
